Yes... the concept of "shipping" is a somewhat recent term dating back possibly five years or so. In this instance, you are correct, it is Harry and Lance (
Lance + H
arry) that these folk hope to have a relationship. So they write stories about it and possibly orgasm to it or not. It isn't just for real life people, it also happens for characters on TV shows. There is no basis in reality (or in writer's minds for many of the fictitious characters) for this stuff; seems to be mostly over-horny 12-16 year old girls.
The different shippings on One Direction is 10 fold... you can make 10 pairs of them and I am sure they all exist.
