Who on this planet has ever overrated Married...With Children? What is there to overrate? Hell, what is there to underrate? It's probably one of the most unabashedly face-value shows that ever ran.

Al makes a face and talks about how bad his life is.
Gemma Teller-Morrow makes a smart-ass comment.
Applegate walks by and says something slutty.
Boy does something, what was his deal, perv-y, don't remember.

Repeat.

Wasn't really my thing.

Had to go back and look at the 1988-89 TV schedule. I was in college so it wasn't a big TV time for me.

However, from the list, I was likely watching Cheers and The Simpsons as shows that I wouldn't have missed at that time. And, of course, Star Trek:TNG.

Other shows that I probably would have watched if they were on - Wonder Years, MacGyver, Baywatch but I wasn't seeking those shows out.

But, I didn't have a VCR in college and Sunday nights I was usually cramming in all the work at the last minute that I should have been doing on Friday/Saturday night.

Married w/ Children was OK. Not a top 100 show, but not bad.

My grandfather used to love it.

Alright. I was actively seeking out Baywatch.

We used to watch in the dorm room. Beer. Pre-bar partying. It was a thing.

It's one of those shows where all of the principles went on to do better, more legitimate work (except the boy who, as it turns out, was a marrionette.)

Roseanne was darker in that its brand of working-class domestic malaise was generally just plausible enough to hit close to home. The first few seasons of Married With Children where Marcy was married to Steve were kinda like that, but even though it was more realistic than the Jefferson/NO MA'AM/studio-audience-gives-a-burp-a-standing-ovation silliness at the end, it was still pretty much just a big dumb farce to get people to pay attention to what Crazy New Fox was up to next.

Roseanne was the worst show of all time. It triggered the beginning of the end for family sitcoms, and the general wholesomeness of the 80s.
