Mr. Peart is the Babe Ruth of Rock Drummers. Ask any drummer over 40. And he is still going.

Rush's true greatness from all its members can be heard about halfway through the song Freewill. There's a 30 to 45 second jam where all three go off. Especially Alex Lifeson who may be the most under rated guitarist in Rock.

Listen to it and tell me Im wrong.

Dear Mr. Dumbfuck,

You are wrong.

Signed,
John Bonham & Keith Moon

Dear Mr Dumbfuck,

If you wish to compare Mr. Peart to somebody, it should not be Babe Ruth. See, Babe Ruth was the very first true home run hitter that baseball had ever seen. Keith Moon and John Bonham were the very first great, powerful, and truly special drummers that rock and/or roll had ever seen. Perhaps you should get a more appropriate comparison before you start talking about jock holding.

Signed,

Mr. Classy

I am not even certain Bonham and Moon were as good as Bill Ward of Sabbath.

Neil Peart is without question the most influential rock drummer in history. However, that doesn't mean he was/is the best from a technical standpoint. Even he would tell you that drummers like Buddy Rich, Terry Bozzio, and Mike Mangini could drum circles around him.

Peart is a legend mainly because he is part of a group whose style is far reaching. And he certainly has had a big hand in that. But the point is, to be a legend, you have to not only be good, but you also have to be known. He is good (or great) based on his drumming, but he is known because of Rush.

I remember reading my dad's Playboy magazines when I was a kid, and they had an annual music poll (yes, I did read the articles too! ) The winner of the Best Drummer category always seemed to be Mick Fleetwood. Now Mick is a fine drummer, but I realized even back then that the reason he won was because Fleetwood Mac was huge.

(Okay, why does the software change "M i c k" to "nut"?)

Peart is great as far as talent goes but the music is boring, so I don't care for his work.

If that old adage that anyone who ever heard the Velvet Underground started a band, then Mo Tucker might be the most influential drummer of all time.
And she was Turrible.

Big fan of Rush. The band I've seen the most, live. Peart is very influential, but I think Bonham is the most influential in the Rock world, though.

I've heard compelling arguments about Ringo and Mickey Dolenz (even though he didn't play drums on the majority of their "hits") Many a young child wanted to play drums because of those guys even though their skill set was "limited"...
