Quote:
A negotiated settlement can include language that admits no wrongdoing whatsoever by the league, which could essentially reset the understanding between owners and players over the assumption of risk. Fewer gray areas would exist after this, with some rights to sue now being waived upon signing a standard contract, along with a specified commitment for an increased and streamlined disability-fund procedure.

I thought we just went over this!

There are elite lawyers working for both parties in this case, many of whom must understand the value of an intelligently-crafted settlement for their respective clients.

And God bless them for it. Really Smart People will find a way for dudes to continue killing each other so as to keep us placated on autumn weekends.

Settle? And give future plaintiffs a leg up in the next lawsuit that will be filed 10 years from now? Don't think so Danny. The NFL is dug into this one.

Hopefully we can get back to less serious radio. Doesn't sound likely with that article.

On second thought I wouldn't mind serious radio if there was some back and forth on the Cubs' long term plans and prognostications. I'm still pretty upset with the Jackson signing which was rubber stamped by these two, as well as the prospects (or lack thereof) for cubs.tv

Leery is in today, and expressing wide-eyed wonder that Daft Punk uses instruments. I don't think I'll make it to 2, but it's a big deal that I'm listening at all.

I could do without them ever being serious again

In fact, if they went goofy, Id listen a lot

Yeah, I'm done. I don't feel like having the radio on. I'm going to try and accomplish things.

just tuned in. Dan trying half-halfheartedly to draw out the crazies with his meatball imitation of an upset Cubs fan about Cubs players laughing about a strange game.

Also, who decided to make preseason game #3 be the big one? Why not the last one?

Because by Week -1 you're just trying to make it to Week 1 without killing anyone, thus Week -2 is the "dress rehearsal" game.

Good Lord. LoHo is the goods but he's going to have Bowen do a weekly "film session" segment for his show?

Good god, was anyone else listening just after 5? Again and again, Leery subjected us to his "Crazy Legs" fake laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CeqFpZHuC0

Well, I lasted about 5 minutes. Larry was sucking Danny's cock about making football completely safe to play (although no one says you can, but let's ignore that) and football teaching life lessons that children can get from other activities (although no one says those lessons can't be learned elsewhere, but let's ignore that, too).

I heard Beerstain reminiscing about his days covering the Bears and having access to video that showed the all-22. Sounded like a hipster football viewer.

I was watching all-22 before it was so carelessly released to the plebeians by the NFL!

No. He was saying that he was at the games, as a reporter, so he can see all 22 players from the press box. Nobody had access to the all-22 coaches tape until the NFL decided to sell it to the public last year.

Take that back, Jawarski got it for his "NFL matchup" show on ESPN. They bury this show early Sunday mornings now. Like 5:30 I think. Back in the day, "NFL matchup" was the preview show before the Monday night game. They'd have "all 22" film of the 2 teams playing on MNF. Now they made the MNF pre game 2 hours of 10 screaming people on sets in the studio and at the game.

Bernstein was at it again with the crass "I take great pleasure in watching the children of 'other people' incur irreversible brain damage so they can amuse me" opinion. Aside from the sucky to nonexistent ethics of the preposition, I also disagree with his oft-stated premise that high-speed collisions and bone-jarring tackles are the primary reasons that explain football's popularity. The analogies to premodern gladiator battles are tenuous, at best, and completely unpersuasive to me. There's nothing gladiator-like about plays designed to create open space for receivers/runners so they can run unimpeded toward the end zone. Personally speaking, I am no more moved by a crushing hit than I am by a shoe-string "tackle." Both events are simply ways of moving on to the next down. There's so much more to the game than the tackling, violent or otherwise, and I resent the misguided and unfounded assertion that we're all drawn to football due to its occasionally violent play.

LalalalalalalaIamnotlisteninglalalala.

You're trying really hard to fuck up the NARRATIVE that all sports fans except Dan Bernstein are bloodlusty meatballs.
