At around 12:45 pm this past Friday a Chicago Police officer made a traffic arrest. The subject, Marquette Fisher, had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest and was driving on a suspended license. The officer placed him under arrest and after cuffing him and placing him in his squad, the officer left Fisher alone in the squad for a short period of time. Fisher, managed to slide his cuffed hands around so that the cuffs were now in front of him and then slid over the seat in the squad (which had no cage) and drove off in the squad. He left the car after driving a few blocks and was found and arrested a short distance from the abandoned squad. So now the genius has charges of Possession of a stolen Law Enforcement vehicle, Aggravated fleeing and eluding, Escaping from custody, obstructing his identity, theft failing to stop at a stop sign and driving on a suspended license. A moment of poor decision making is gonna cost this guy big time. I have to admit, there is a little element of wild adventure to the stunt, but definitely not worth the trouble.

The traffic violations are obviously the least of his worries. But I doubt he gets any breaks and has any of the charges dropped in order to get a plea deal. The D.A. will likely press for convictions on all counts. Again, it was a bit amusing, but this guy is going to pay dearly for this lapse of judgement.

If his name was De Paul instead of Marquette, the cop would have given him TIF money even after so many years of losing in life.

I thought there was a 60/40 chance this was going to be about a guy fishing in Marquette Park.

Something that clever doesn't belong in a thread started by the racist painter.

At least he isn't a nuisance, disturbing his neighbors with rock and/or roll.

Lapse of judgement....as in being in a one man car with no cage, and leaving the perp in the car long enough for him to pull his houdini act.

The cop should be fired. What shitty police work. More proof that cops aren't cops because they were honor roll students.

Not too many squads without cages anymore and there shouldn't really be any. As far as being in a one man car, that's just standard. There are VERY few departments that operate 2 man squads anymore. The idea of having a partner is still popular on Cop shows, but not in real life. If they need assistance, communications sends a back-up. For anything serious, they send multiple officers initially.

So when you've got a belligerent-if not intoxicated-female for transport, what was the SOP? Let her spit on the back of your head or pull over and beat her like a real man? Your word against hers, show the wet spot on the back of your head or explain the bruises she displays?
