That was a very aesthetically pleasing game. Chris Sale pitched great, the Garcia's played great and the butt nugget twins were on the bench.

I was at the game yesterday and it was a beauty to watch. Sale had them from the first pitch and he knew it.

It is fun to watch Avisail play. I don't see any reason why he cannot play CF next year.

I'm not a DeAza fan, although Keyser Soze's over-the-top hatred of the guy makes me want to root for him. But the thing is, you're just not likely to get the kind of production for the price that DeAza is giving you. They should just try to mitigate his weaknesses. If Garcia can play center, put DeAza on the corner. If you're going to dedicate yourself to playing slap-and-tickle baseball, then maybe you should move Alexei and let L. Garcia lead off and try to kick, gouge, and scratch his way on base. Once he's there, he's a guy that can really steal at a good percentage and go from first to third on almost anything. If DeAza bats ninth and you limit his running, he looks a lot better.

No one wanted De Aza at the trade deadline, even that cash strapped teams like Pittsburgh. What does that tell you? (unless Hahn said he was untouchable from the get-go, which I doubt).

I don't think they were looking to trade DeAza. He makes what? $2 million? And he's a slightly above average outfielder. He isn't having his best season, but who on the Sox is? The previous two years he was around a 2.5 WAR guy. Look around at some of the other outfields in baseball. There are some horseshit guys out there. If the Sox can replace him with Adam Jones, let's do it. But we both know that ain't happening. The best you could hope for is someone else's DeAza.

Exactly.

If there were better options in the minors I'd say let them get a shot but there aren't.

Look JORR, you are big on the intangibles and testicular fortitude stuff, right? I think this guy is completely lacking in any sort of baseball intelligence IMO. He's on pace for 150 K's for god's sakes!

This team needs offense. The easiest place to find offense is LF, 1B, DH. We don't need a guy with a .750 OPS at a corner OF spot.

I don't get this losers mentality. "He's not that bad, he's cheap..." you sound like a Cubs fan.

I'm agree with Joe. I think De Aza is pretty good for the price you pay. If he ever becomes expensive he is gone....but that isn't next year.

DeAza is not a CF and is not a leadoff man, but that really isn't his fault now is it? Look to Kenny/Hahn who pretty much gave Ventura no other option in CF or at the leadoff spot. It IS, however, Robin's fault for continuing to let DeAza run the bases with such stupidity.

Orr is correct when he says that DeAza looks a lot better hitting 8th or 9th and playing a corner OF spot.

Outfielder A
.271/.329/.416 .327 wOBA 101 wRC+ 2.1 fWAR

Outfielder B
.275/.323/.415 .323 wOBA 98 wRC+ 1.9 fWAR

A= De Aza 2013
B= Alex Rios 2013

Perception is a funny thing. Rios is percieved to be way more valuable, he actually isn't (this year)

Look, I'd like Mike Trout and Adam Jones in my outfield too, but it's not realistic. Fine, let's get rid of DeAza. Who is his replacement? And don't say "anybody" or the ever elusive "replacement player". The Yankees start Brett Gardner and his .728 OPS for God's sake! The Yankees! The steroid era is over. We have to downscale our offensive expectations.

Plus, the Sox are hurting for guys who bat from the left side. I'm not sure they can get a lefty to take an outfield corner. That's why they can't just cashier Dunn. If it were up to me, I'd move Viciedo to splitting 1B/DH with Dunn and maybe try to trade Ramirez for a left-handed outfielder. I don't know who though. It's not that easy.

Right now JorDanks has a .720 OPS compared to .745 for DeAza. I BELIEVE (but don't really KNOW) that Danks would be a plus fielder and baserunner. I BELIEVE JorDanks has some room to improve. I'm pretty sure DeAza is not going to improve. I'd like the job given to Danks until he proves he can't handle it. If as you say, DeAza has a lot of value b/c he is so cheap, I would like to see him traded.

I hear Hawk always talking about how great Danks is on the bases and in the field, but he hardly ever plays and every time I see him, he's fucking up out there. He takes odd routes to balls too.

I don't think DeAza has a lot of value to anyone else. He's just a guy that looks better on someone else's team than he does on yours. Every team has those guys. If you had Nick Punto you'd want to replace him, but when he's playing against you, he's kicking your balls in.

I don't think DeAza has to improve. All he has to do is play like he did last year and he's a good outfield piece. I don't believe Danks is ever going to be able to hit the way DeAza has proven he can. I could be wrong, but I would think they want Danks to be good. If he were, he'd have gotten more of a chance.

They have to upgrade centerfield and Garcia can definitely handle playing there for now. De Aza has to go. He is everything that is wrong with this team. Bad jumps, throwing to the wrong base, getting picked off, the inability to take an extra base (even on a god damn hit and run!), the inability to bunt and all the pop ups and strikeouts. He's a bad baseball player.

The only thing standing between the Sox and a World Series is Alejandro DeAza.

The other day the Sox recalled LHP Charlie Leesman and C Bryan Anderson. Today they called up RHP Erik Johnson, RHP Daniel Webb, SS Marcus Semien and C Miguel Gonzalez. They also lost Tyler Flowers to season ending shoulder surgery.

I'm very excited to see Johnson and Semien and I know BigFan is excited to see Daniel Webb. Hopefully they get Johnson and spot start or two.

Is Bryan Anderson the same Bryan Anderson that used to catch in the minors for the Cardinals? I always thought he was a big prospect for them playing alongside the likes of Rasmus and Craig.

That seat for Ventura better be getting hot.

It would be nice if Hahn grew a pair and made it clear he was breaking away from KW by getting his own manager

sabermetrics has ruined baseball. back in the day, grindy fundamental types would beat out naturally talented but idiotic players. Not anymore.
