Both teams suck,I know but how is it the Sox save their best baseball for August?

The Cubs downfall is directly associated with the purge/flip moves but my God do they suck!

Do you blame/give credit to the managers?

It is by design. Had they been in contention, Feldman, Garza, Soriano and all the others traded away, would have been retained. But they were not in contention, so they traded for more young players to further stock the farm system. In a year or two (probably 2), they are likely to be buyers at the trade deadline, rather than sellers. The Cubs want another top draft pick and should have a great chance to get the #3 overall pick, while the Sox most recent surge will result in a pick a bit farther down. You need to resign yourself to the fact that as long as the team is rebuilding, they will continue to sell off veterans that are not in the long-range plans, if they are not in contention. It may not be fun to watch after the sell-offs are completed, but it is in the best interest of the team in the long term.

I don't take solace in late season runs when out of contention. Adam Dunn's career is built on producing in meaningless games

I certainly don't take solace but I do like watching my favorite team play well and win games.

No doubt. Enjoy it for the moment of pleasure it provides but nothing should be extrapolated from late season runs from dead teams...other than Avisail Garcia being a future MVP.

The Cubs pitching has still be pretty good. When they were winning they were getting absurdly above average contributions from theo's dumpster salvages.

Listen, you're allowed to have your "idea" of whether or not you think Adam Dunn is productive this year, but there's a very good chance that you're totally wrong.

Some Dude
What was he hitting when we were 23-23 in May and we were still in a race? He needs to hit in meaningful games Chris not start hitting when we're out of the race

Chris Rongey
Again, misconception. Dunn started hitting in early June, right after they had gotten back to .500 and were 4 games out of first. So, he started producing right when they needed it.

Yes, I blame Dale for Jed/Theo trading away players for future considerations.

I hope this guy reminds Ranger the day after they reached .500 the team went into a huge swoon which means Dunn hit when they were both under .500 and losing

His response would be that it wasn't Dunn's fault the team sucked.

If they win and he doesn't hit but lose when he does, I think that does mean it is Dunn's fault. Pass that along to Ranger on that new fangled Twitter contraption

Don Tiny,
I ALREADY stated about Theo's moves that make a lousy team even more lousy.
Still, the team seems to lack something. Desire, hustle,I don't know. The pitching
staff has kept them in most games. The offense not hitting in the clutch has been
going on all year.

Sveum is heading towards 95-100 losses. If it's another 100 loss season, that has not
happened since the team was created I don't think. So since 1876 this will be the first time.
That's still OK though,I guess. Right Cub Fans?

Well, hopefully it all leads to a World Series title in a few years.....something else that hasn't happened in a long time.

I think Wittenmyer said it best this morning. The Cubs are right now the mirror image of an expansion team, so yes, they are a dead ass team and could be that way for the next 5-10 years. The White Sox right now are going through a downward trend, but they have one of the top pitchers in baseball. Its going to suck for a few years, but I would put money the Sox return to a +.500 team before the Cubs do.

Desire .... hustle .... fire .... passion .... meatballism .... keep it.

At least tell me you won't stoop to the level of saying the team would be better with Sandberg.

My bigger concern right now is whether or not Ricketts will keep the purse strings tight over the next 5-10 years. Theo's moves look bad because he has to spend like... the White Sox.

Well yeah. Theo is a checkbook GM. Even the good drafting the Red Sox did was built on overpayment.

But I thought we've been told on several occasions that, when the time is appropriate, (in so many words) they'll back the money truck up to the pay window, so I don't think that's a bad thing to look forward to, no?

I really do wonder about when Ricketts will open things up for payroll. I imagine the first couple of years of this great new revenue (which is still years away for full monetization) will be used to pay down debt.

I want it noted that this post occurred before Theo's revealing interview on Hit and Run and the story in today's sun times
