Yeah, but before Theo the Cubs did draft real talent, too. Prior,Wood,Zambrano,Grace,Palmero. Not too many, but even a blind squirell finds an acorn. I don't like the approach that rebuilding a farm system is directly connected to not putting a respectable ML team on the field.
AllI know is what I see. I follow the Cubs and they suck. Don't tell me about how well the minors are doing. Hendry's minor league teams also had success during his tenure. Ricketts is 0 for 4 as owner and the teams record is getting worse each year PERIOD EXCLAMATION POINT
that's not reasonable Jimmy

you're complaining about the team not being good...the way that they're going to fix the team not being good is tvia the minor leagues but you say don't tell me about that

So apparently you're just going to bitch no matter what. you just like bitching don't you jimmy?

I would but almost anything that you were bitchinb through the O7 08 seasons about Hendry and him spending every dollar on free agents and forsaking the minors so basically you're just not goimg to be happy

When the Cubs had the best record in the NL were there really any Cub fans sitting around saying, "This sucks, we've got no one in the minors!"?

It was more like that weird gnawing fear you'd get on a Sunday night when you were sure you had a homework assignment due tomorrow but you couldn't remember what and so you'd just keep watching football.

I still have a terrible reaction to the 60 minutes clicking sound that CBS would always play towards the end of the game. It was like a siren that said "weekend over, go to school and becomes less dumb".

Yeah, I think everybody felt like that. Those ticks were god awful.

Id get especially depressed when the Bears played at 315 and they started losing in the second half and it was already fucking 530 on sunday night

No, but certainly you know there are fans who will find a reason to bitch no matter what.

I doubt Jimmy was lauding Hendry.

Same here, each tick was like a sound unleashed from hell.

Not exactly that. But everybody knew the window was short as Hendry built the roster in an unsustainable way.

The world series window is short for every team.

Yes, I just like bitching. RPB,what else do I bitch about on here? Most of my posts are done in a light hearted way. I guess when it comes to the Cubs, I just feel very sad about 100+ years of failure. Gee,sorry for getting angry, but as a Cub's fan,I don't do "passive".

Hendry signed a lot of bad paper and he needed to go but to replace him with a guy who feels it's ok to lose because that's what works? Look no farther then Pittsburgh or KC to see how going young does it for you. At least Hendry tried to win.

I dont mean to say you bitch about everything, just that you might be that type of fan, and like I said, I think a lot of people are like that.

I understand being frustrated, I just think you're being a little irrational about it. I mean I guess I dont understand why you're seemingly surprised by this stuff.

Dont you think Epstein is doing his best? I mean do you think he has better plans that he's not using?

Its fine. Some would say spend, some would say build the organization.

Personally, for most of my life the Cubs have been awful at developing their own players. So I guess Im a little biased towards an administration that's putting that at a premium

Exactly. There is no "right way" to build a team other than winning. I mean, think of all the words that have been written about Theo and the Cubs prospects that will win the World Series some time, I don't know when. There is a good possibility, and I'm not saying it's any kind of certainty, but there's a good possibility that Avisail Garcia is a better centerpiece to build a team around than anyone in the entire Cubs system. And that was just a guy the Sox picked up dumping Peavy, nothing that has been really talked about or dwelt on or lauded or anything. Just a trade. It's a funny game. Plans go awry all the time. You better have a back-up plan. And then one behind that.

It is time to look for OTHER players.

I am fine if you dont want a CF, SS or 3B, but I do want a LF, RF and a real 2B. No more Barney,Theriot,Fontenot. I need a 2B that does at least one thing REALLY well offensivley. Wanna bat 230, OK, then steal 30!

Darwin Barney is a gold glove second baseman so he does one thing really well. I think the average 2B last year was under a .250 hitter. You can live with Barney as long as you are ready to upgrade should the chance present itself.

Donnie Murphy looks like an upgrade,Barney blows.

Bogo & Sweeney swing more potent bats then DeJesus did. I forgot where Bogo came from. I thought he was a minor league guy from the Cubs farm system.

and now Rizzo thinks "it's been a pretty fair year for me".

No it hasn't and that attitude towards your production is disappointing. He should be telling anyone who would listen at this point how hard he is going to work in the offseason to get back to 2012 production, not accepting 2013 as a success during which he reached his goal of being an everyday 1B.

I really don't like the posture of him and Castro. I would hope these guys coming up have more of a hate for losing and a drive to be great.

yep, can't argue. Rizzo has proven he can't hit lefties. He is not an everyday guy.

They need a hitting coach that will teach these guys how to hit. When Rizzo came up, he was hitting line drives to left field. Now he's pull happy. If he doesn't change that approach, he'll never be more than a .220 hitter.

Castro just needs to be left alone. It will be interesting if they get a good offer for him in the offseason and trade him while he still has value. You know their are teams out there who believe this year was a fluke.

June: .745
July: .701

Sept: .623

It was a fluke... Why do you want the Cubs to overreact?

Given they have Baez, if they get a Godfather offer, move him. But's it's got to be an offer they can't refuse...

and Gordon Whitenmeyer just sits back, takes his quote and then looks for support for the player rather than challenging the statement. That doesn't mean that he isn't/won't develop but this was a down year.

And that surprises you? Why would the media come out and challenge anything with the Cubs?

If Kenny Williams had said that the Sox had an 'excellent year across the board' the media and fans would rip him to shreds, and rightly so. But because its Theo, everything is peaches and ice cream on the North side as they finished up their 3rd consecutive 90+ loss season.
