So you don't think Wrigley Field is one of the primary draws of the Cubs? I understand you'll say that you don't care where they play but it seems pretty obvious that most people, including the owners, think that Wrigley Field is just as important as the actual team.

Baseball is just a good excuse to have a nice afternoon or night outside. That is why once September hits everyone is watching football on television instead.

if baseball played their season at a one game a week clip, for a total of say 30 games, people would be just as riveted to it in September as football. Baseball continues to bore over the long run because of the...long run.

I don't believe that is true. People don't even watch the World Series. Most Sunday Night football games beat almost all World Series games. There are even preseason football games that beat World Series games.

In September, and October, the amount of games goes down significantly and it still doesn't come close.

Baseball is much more than that. Not everyone has to see it, but it's much more. Seriously, its a big part of this country's history and still is a big deal to a lot of people, irrespective of football.

That's exactly my point. Both you and JORR have made arguments explaining away the popularity of football because of X or Y. I'm just doing the same for baseball.

Eh, I dont really get too much into that.

I mean, it would be foolish to even suggest that a large portion of NFL fandom is not fueled by Gambling/Fantasy.

I dont think Gambling fantasy vs being outdoors is an even comparison, but I gotta file that under "who cares" either way

I will be enjoying both sports this month

I don't know what that means. What is an "easily digestible television program"? It's the same for baseball. It just turns out football is better on television.

I doubt you want to compare attendance on a percentage basis. NFL stadiums are filled at significantly higher rates than baseball stadiums.

I can and will. Going to see Eagles vs. Packers and Ohio State vs. Michigan. Both games will be full houses with over 80K+ in attend and millions more in viewers.

I'm sure there are high schools that have larger attendance numbers than some MLB teams.

Hey Joe Orr, the US Open tennis tournament has higher attendance and brings in more dollars to the local economy than the Super Bowl does. So that means that tennis is more popular than both baseball and football, right?

We can do it right here. How many CSFMB members saw a baseball game this year. How many games? Now how many will see a football game?

Oh, no, I love it so, so, much, It's so popular, so great, the most important thing in my life, but I just can't find the time or the money to see a game. It's so hard. I love the Red Zone. If they ever broadcast that at the stadium maybe I'll go. If I can find $100 lying around in the backseat of one of my SUVs or behind one of my giant TVs.

I don't know if that's true, Frank. Anyway, I just don't think television ratings at two different times of the year is a great way to measure something as ambiguous as "popularity". The NFL is marketing itself as a television program. MLB really isn't. At least not very well. You can say shame on MLB. That's fine. But I don't think that fact has anything to do with popularity. And I don't think millions of twenty-something chicks who wear Hester jerseys and make seven layer salads for the boys watching the Red Zone are football fans anymore than the Southern sorority sisters who attended Ole Miss in the 50s looking for husbands were students.

I watch about 200 baseball games a year, maybe 12-15 in person. Football? maybe 10 games a year on TV, never really pay complete attention to the game itself... including the Super Bowl. Fairly certain i'm kind of the extreme minority, however
