There have been times when we have watched a high-powered offensive team catch fire as they start marching down the field. That offense is running up to the line of scrimmage on every play to ensure its opponent cannot substitute players.

Suddenly, somebody on the defense goes down with an injury, and those guys finally gets a chance to catch their breath. You never want to see a person on the ground in pain, but that defense sure needed a break.

Well, if you were watching a Chicago Bears game, apparently there was no need to feel sorry that injured defender.

It was all an act.

Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, who is a Fox Sports 1 analyst, revealed his team would fake injuries to slow down high-powered offenses before he retired.

“We had a guy who was the designated dive guy,” Urlacher said via the Chicago Sun-Times.
Urlacher said a Bears coach would simulate a swimmers’ diving motion with his arms from the sideline and the player “would get hurt.”
Urlacher added that they were not coached, but faking injuries was part of their game plan. He would not name the coach in charge of calling the "fake".

If what happens in Vegas is supposed to stay there, Urlacher is probably the last guy you want at your bachelor party.

Even though Urlacher is retired, most players still live by the locker room code, which means not talking about what happens behind closed doors. There are a lot of things that occur in locker rooms the general public does not know about, but Urlacher is like a magician revealing secrets on Fox Sports 1.

Of course, now this means the next time a Bears defender goes down when an opponent is driving, everyone watching will wonder if it is legit or staged.

Who said the best actors are not from Chicago?

Urlacher can go piss up a rope. I didn't care what he had to say as a player and I care less now. He is a future HOF and I appreciate his work on the field

That's the headline.

It would be quite an upset if he was actually somebody worth watching as an analyst.

I've got a feeling Urlacher is gonna be crying and bitching all year about a lot of things. Not that this latest comment was him bitching. I don't think this is a big deal. All teams do it. So what if the retired player admitted it. There is no way to police it if it's done subtlety

Last year in a Steelers game the WR was walking fine, was told to go down and just collaped while grabbing his leg. That one was a little obvious. But usually the sign is given to a player to do it before the play so it looks natural.

Northwestern just did the injury thing in the 1st game of the season. The opposing coach was pissed and I think he had some words with NU's HC after the game.

I still cant believe that Fox hired this white trash dope as an analyst. Brian has the same problem that Matt Bowen has..he talks way too fast & mumbles.

I've caught some of his work on Fox Sports 1. He isn't as bad as I thought but I based that on mostly hearing him speak to the media with 1 word answers or him being a dickhead to ZZ during those training camp segments. He hastes Emery with a passion. That bleeds through every word he speaks.

Why is this even news? Teams have been doing this kind of stuff for years.

Thought Urlacher only talked to Jay Glazer.

Or did he give Sun-Times Splash columnist Jenny McCarthy the down low.
