See, my definition of "fan" is someone who is passionate about something to a such a degree that he makes an extraordinary effort to follow said thing, to a degree which most people might not consider rational.

I'm a White Sox fan, and to a somewhat lesser degree, a fan of baseball in general. It's just who I am. I don't think it makes me better than anyone else. IMU and RPB are Cub fans. And I believe they are both much bigger fans of baseball in general than I am. I don't think that makes them better than I am. It just is. And I'm not a Sox fan because I go to games. I go to games because I'm a Sox fan.

I have no doubt that if there were a government ban on television, IMU and RPB and even jimmypasta would find other ways to follow their team, whether it be listening to games on the radio or whatever. And I think that's the case with most baseball fans. However, I certainly don't believe if that TV ban were in effect, that the vast majority of people claiming to be football fans would be sitting around listening to the NFL on WIND on Sunday afternoons.

I'm sure there are many fans that want to go to see their team play that don't or can't for a number of reasons. That doesn't necessarily make them less of a fan than a season ticket holder.

The problem is that you ignore just how much of an extraordinary effort football fans make. They watch their own team, and then watch a Sunday. The stadiums are still packed at much higher rates than baseball. They just do it at home. You really seem to think that sitting in traffic, parking, and walking are pretty important I guess.

It's not about your expenditures, jimmy. It's about your emotions, your feelings. You know if you're a fan of something or not. There's no point in lying about it. Even to yourself. In fact, the very act of being a fan of something is slightly irrational. Probably not something to be really proud of.

If you say you're a fan of the NFL but watching on TV is just the way you choose to consume it, I have to assume that if that avenue weren't available, you'd consume it a different way. And if not, maybe you aren't the fan you think you are. But you don't have to answer to me. Answer to yourself. I'm not demanding a yes or no like BRick.

Because nobody can be working delivering pizza and listening to the game in the car. Most people aren't a huge fan or working weekends. Nobody can be driving to a family party (or a sunday panther wedding) that they aren't a fan of and listening to the game in the car.

No tradesman ever does a side job on a Sunday or has a Sunday as one of his/her regular work days that would be following the game on the radio. Probably not big fans of being at work at that time.

So listen to football on the radio doesn't mean you are a fan? We are eliminating a lot of ways of consuming a product. Watch on television? Fan of television. Listen on the radio? Fan of wherever you are going. It almost seems as if you are eliminating everything but attending games in person. However, I don't want to make you uncomfortable by being a bully so I won't ask the very mean question I did earlier in the thread.

What I'm saying is that you are acutely aware of the context when the topic is how many more people see MLB games each season than NFL games, i.e., the amount of games available, but you are willfully ignorant of the context when citing the higher percentage of attendance at NFL games, i.e., the limited supply.

I merely pointed out several examples of how people can be doing something that they are not actually a fan (i.e., work, family party, wedding, etc) of yet they are still being Bears/sports fans by following their team via the radio.

I've explained it at least two other times. Tickets sold and percentage of attendance are flawed metrics because of the different amount of games and the size of the stadiums. If you can cite how many total tickets are sold then I will cite average attendance and average price. Both of us are using bad metrics. It's easy to spin either one of them to whatever you want to proclaim. You seem to agree with me. That's great. It's been my opinion all along.

There is a great metric that removes the cap on how many people you can fit in a stadium and how many games are played a year, but you don't accept that either so basically I'm wasting my time.
