Today's athletes are so superior, they probably couldn't.

Exactly. I doubt Ali could even satisfy Hayden Panettiere.

Didn't anybody see Rocky 4? Ali would die in the ring and would be avenged by Marciano.

Klitschko would be better at football than Butkus.

The crazy thing is that both Klitschko brothers were champion kickboxers in the 90's. Could you imagine getting hit with a roundhouse kick to the head from one of these guys?

Right. And who the fuck did Ali ever fight anyway? A bunch of slow, tiny, black guys. I have it on good authority from an esteemed CSFMB member that George Foreman was no more than 5'8.5".

The thing I hate about boxing narratives which focus on physical improvements is that they gloss over skill deterioration, which has absolutely been happening for quite some time. This isn't to say that the Klitschkos are unskilled, but Ali was miles ahead of all of their opponents in that department as well as ring IQ. The brothers might get too much flack for making it look too easy most of the time, but this heavyweight era is nevertheless legitimately terrible.

If Hayden Panettierre can handle his size, I'm sure Ali and Joe Louis could.

Comparing eras is so difficult. I just looked up Jesse Owens 100 time. Wow, big time slow by today's standards.

On August 3, he won the 100m sprint with a time of 10.3s, defeating Ralph Metcalfe.

I dont trust any time keeping records from back in the day. Now we are using sensor pads and electronic timers and stuff. Back then it was a guy with a stopwatch. Think about it, we are talking about .7 seconds between his number and Bolt's record. I think that can be explained away with advanced time keeping and training. Jesse Owens would be just fine.

Edit: And the guy smoked a pack a day

I thought this particular narrative as espoused by Lil Danny was that past eras athletes would / could compete today if they were black. It was only slow , tiny, white athletes of yesteryear that would get wang whipped and are not as good .

You can explain 0.7 seconds because of human error? That's alot of time. I can see maybe .1 or .2, but .7 is a huge different in sprinting.

Black athletes didnt start wang whipping until the 70s/80s.

Ok do you trust Carl Lewis' best time?

100 m: 9.86 s (August 1991, Tokyo)

Bolt's:

100 m: 9.58 WR (Berlin 2009)[4]

So it improved quite a bit in 20-ish years.

You could probably make a case for today's runners having better shoes, which would definitely make up that 0.7 second difference, but I'm not buying the time-keeper excuse.

In the last 100 years the average height of men has grown 11 centimeters. I'm sure part of it is just better athletes today via evolution.

You're kidding, right? Nothing "evolves" in a single generation. Any increase in height is due only to changes in nutrition/standards of living.

A century isn't a generation and evolutionary traits absolutely unfold within 100 years.

No. And certainly not to the degree you're suggesting.

Must be evolution! Your great great grandson will probably be eight feet tall.

Evolution occurs due to favorable traits being passed on through survival of those individuals with the trait. Short people breed just as much as tall people. It has to be due to nutrition/health standards.
