(Now that you mention it, when they reopened after the flood last spring,they repainted everything a bright white which, under the fluorescent lights and a compromised state of lucidity, could be described as otherworldly. There is no afterlife. Its another construct humans have invented to get over the horrid fear we face being aware of our impending death. While it has had its benefits, leading to civilization as we know it, it also has its drawbacks as we are willing to be good peasants working 60+ hours a week knowing that some day we will be up in Heaven.

Religion in many ways created civilization. Civilization has a foundational purpose and our culture drives that it must be maintained and progress at all costs and cannot be abandoned. I like to imagine Heaven as a place where the only people who get in are the ones who were unaccepting of gay marriage. Anyone who accepts their lifestyle is immediately sent to hell to suffer in eternity. Anyone who spent their life being a warrior for God and fighting to restrict gay marriage and tell people that they are wrong for it immediately gets in and is welcomed by Jesus himself and commended for the help in the most important battle in human existence.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
