Mac is, for reasons unbeknownst to me, asking everyone during transition how tall they think Michael Douglas is. Dan said "About my height...5' 8.5."

Bernsie is also talking about something he read in TigerBeat...or Twitter, whichever.

Mac is probably tired after five straight hours of gigglespeak and will go home soon.

What the fuck? Does this only happen on the rare occasions I decide to start a show thread?

BTW, Peter King wants you to change your username. Dan Snyder thinks you should keep on truckin'.

I wish they would either change it or stop discussing it altogether. Just so sick of hearing this for years and years and years.

I understand why "Redskins" can be found offensive by Native Americans but I don't know why "Fighting Sioux" is offensive and has to be changed but "Fighting Irish" is OK, or why "Indians" is offensive but "Vikings" is OK. I can see why people would find the Indian's googly-eyed, big-toothed, big-nosed logo offensive. I don't see anything offensive about the Blackhawk's logo or Marquette's old logo.

The funniest solution I saw was to change the Redskins mascot to a potato. Problem solved.

Yikes, it took me too long to figure this out. My brain is a piece of shit right now.

I didn't get it, either, and had to look it up. From Wikipedia:

Soon after their Super Bowl victory in 1992, Native Americans started writing letters to owner Jack Kent Cooke encouraging him to change the name. Others boycotted Redskins products and protested. At one protest "Native Americans handed the fans redskin potatoes as they entered a Redskins game, suggesting that if the team will not change their name altogether, then they should at least change their mascot to the potato. Many of these events were led by Suzan Shown Harjo of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI).

Changing "Redskins" to a potato reference is really the best way to negotiate this unpleasantness. Fans won't give up the name or the colors, but the Redskins' logo has never really been embraced on the level of the Blackhawks' Indian Head or the Braves' tomahawk, so maybe if they officially had a potato as a logo but never used it for anything (kind of like how the Rams have that little ram head but everyone knows them for the horns on the helmet), they could keep things close to the way they are.

Switch back to the FSU style helmets that were used under the Spurrier "era"

Agreed, redskinpotatogreg, those helmets are very cool.

If they ditch the Redskins name it's gonna crush this guy

Met him on my lone trip to see a game in DC. He's a celebrity out there.

Wonder if he's team sanctioned or if he's a ronnie woo-woo / billy cub / steve bartman independent mascot.

Yeah, those are cool. I like football helmets that are conceptual rather than just the logo on the side: Bengals, Rams, Eagles, Vikings.

In this case, it would be not an Indian's spear, but merely the kabob for some delicious roasted potatoes.

He's been there forever. I'm 44 and remember seeing him on TV during games when I was a little kid. I imagine he and the balck Cowboys mascot talking on the phone at last once a week.

The Redskins have never felt like a cornerstone NFL team to me, even though I suppose they kind of are. I sort of slot them with the Eagles in the "ESPN, why are you forcing me to care about this team" category.

beni listens so you don’t have to, and this will most likely be the last time beni listens this year. Beni is sleeping through these things now too.

- Don’t panic over Peppers. Way too much Peppers concern…and talk in this segment. No discernable injury. Please move on ZZ.
- Mel Tucker is a genius. All talking heads agree.
- Frey is kicking ass starting at such a young age
- Peterson has big #’s against the Beloved. “tackle right” and he can be stopped.
- Tress talks cost/benefit of practicing tackling in pre-season. Cost/benefit people. Break out your charts and graphs.
- ZZ exclaims pre-season a success as no one was injured.
- Bears lost 1 time to Minn at home.
- Berns: Let’s talk Gould’s 58 yard field goal. Kick would have been good from much further. Someone is breaking the longest kick record, right? ZZ is most impressed with Gould’s ability to hit em at windy Soldiers Field.
- Terry: Gould couldn’t kick a 50 yarder when he came in. Gould always thought he could, but Lovie wouldn’t allow it. Silly Lovie.

Tillman limited w/ a knee. Expected to play. Bears wear throwback jerseys…the ones with the orange numerals.

I think that slot is reserved for the Jets and Cowboys. The Cowboys remind me of another, ESPN-overhyped team that's been perpetually stuck in mediocrity: the Knicks. Based on the amount of TV time both teams receive on ESPN, you'd think they're the premier organizations of the NFL and NBA, when in fact both have been absolutely irrelevant for more than a decade.

I'm of the opinion they need to get the fuck over it but hey as an Irish German I have a cool fighting leprechaun and the sterling depiction that Germans usually get to fall back on so I'm all good.

Fighting Sioux has to be changed because the NCAA requires that schools get permission from the tribes to use such names. Florida State got it, North Dakota didn't.

That isn't true. The Sioux tribe gave them permission.

The NCAA is just great at treating small schools different than big schools.
