I really like "One of These Nights" and "Already Gone," but I totally get the argument for worst band ever. It's a matter of shittiness relative to success and their personalities. I mean, Creed fits the same profile, but when you get right down to it, they had a few big singles and then Scott Stapp threw up on himself and they went away. The Eagles get to claim the best-selling album of all time, those fucks.

Why is Nickelback like the white guy punchline of music? I haven't knowingly heard any of their music, but for years, I've been curious to know why they are so regularly disrespected. Same goes for Coldplay. Is their music that offensively bad, or is it just kinda trendy to hate on Nickelback and Coldplay?

Listen to their stuff, Kid. If you dare. Its awful. A couple of years ago they played the pregame (or maybe halftime) for the Thanksgiving game at Detroit. They are from the Detroit area, and they were booed mercilessly almost the entire time.

Nickelback is from Calgary, if I remember correctly. Maybe Vancouver. Somewhere in western Canada.

Nickelback is just boilerplate "active rock" or "post-grunge." The singer sounds like a poor man's Eddie Vedder, the guitars are sludgy, and the people who listen to it are the guys who settled arguments in high school with "I can bench more than you."

As for Coldplay, they're basically U2 circa The Joshua Tree and Radiohead circa The Bends without either one's sense of adventure, which leaves you with a "big" but ultimately toothless sound. They get shit, but "Clocks" is a fine enough song, and Viva la Vida is actually a pretty decent album, mostly because Brian Eno produced it. Eno produced The Joshua Tree (among dozens of other classic albums), so it was kind of a cut-out-the-middleman effect. While people will rip on them, they're at least within the big tent of critic-approved album rock, whereas Nickelback is just seen as bilge for the dumbest of the dumb.

Parachutes is actually a very SOLID album. A Rush Of Blood To The Head also has it's moments, but I never got "Clocks", it just wasn't my thing.
