Bob is picking up this gig quickly. "You want to change the subject, what's the point spread this weekend?"

That was a pretty entertaining Bob call.

Where is Boilermaker Rick? We got serious D1 football talk going on.

Arian Foster is correct from my ancient experience of the dorms, and what scholarship athletes were given. The dorms were closed for most of the weekend. They did get money (small amounts) to cover basic food for weekends.

Training table during the season was a huge eating bonus, and they absolutely used it and needed it. Big deal.

I like this Arian Foster guy. From an article in 2010, he pounds my hometown. He is absolutely right.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=lc-fosterjourney091510

Nor was he trying to insult when he said that moving to San Diego in high school to live with his father after his parents’ divorce was the best thing that could have happened, because it removed him from the malaise of his home town of Albuquerque.

“The vision [in Albuquerque] isn’t very high,” he said. “People over there don’t expect a lot from other people. It’s kind of a cesspool of mediocrity. I hate to say that but it really is. It has so much talent over there, but I don’t see a lot of people pushing it over there.”

Prior to reading this I didn't even know he was born there.

Yup, the players on my floor never seemed to be hurting for money or food. They also always seemed to have a good supply of beer.

The non-revenue sports people seemed to get by just fine too.

They should get more per month whether they live on campus or off. The funny thing is that the big schools do want to pay them an extra $2,000-$3,000 a month. It is the smaller schools that are blocking it.

All the guys on our basketball team drove around in brand new Chevy Blazers.

They really did. Even after getting a 2-year ban for getting deals on Chevy Blazers.

I can understand the smaller schools not wanting to do it or allow it...uneven recruiting field and all of that. But it really isn't even in the first place. Pretty much a WYC situation from jump.

Big market vs small market. D1 football got nothing. We sucked and D1 football lost money. T. M. was the only decent football player we had when I was there. His bonus was getting to walk into the training room and yell, I need more, and the head trainer giving him a handful of vicodin. (Beni was getting treatment on his leg and groin after getting hit by a car when he was on a bike. Beni needed some of those vicodin)

The basketball players got the cars. They were leased to the athletic department and doled out by the coaches or the AD. Kelvin Scarborough (who if alive is either dealing drugs at a park on Coal and University or in jail) was the "star" point guard. He and one (1) other guy received VWs, Jettas iirc. During the year it seemed they passed them around almost weekly based on who played well. Ahh small market schools.

hadn't heard Alex Brown yet. After 5 sentences, I don't want to hear anymore.

I don't really have a problem with the use of "We" as the hosts do. I must draw the line, however, with Mr. Alex Jamex Brown. Too much we we.

Alex needs to tight up that analysis just a little bit. Not hating on him per se. It just needs a little more refinement.

I can't wait to hear what Danny says when Alex or Martellus say something about "Bear weather". I'm guessing his head will explode because he can't/won't correct them on that fallacy.

Question - if Bernstein has such sources that he is able to just pick up the phone and confirm within a day that Joe Girardi was an extremely realistic possibility to be the Cubs manager next season, and Terry saying he would check with his guy to get the answer too how much Cubs management holds Dale Sveum accountable for the development of young players, why don't these two get in-front of stories instead of reconfirming other reporters reports? They seem to be a phone call away from a source who knows everything about any team in town.

Now, that they have covered the Cubs (assuming Boers gets his answer on the question above), maybe they can end any guesses as to how active the White Sox are going to be in the off-season with all of their financial flexibility?

I know they often drop hints after news has broken that they already knew about it, or comments that the player involved had things going on that they can't speak about, only hint at, but do they ever (or have they) use these sources to first report instead of react to a rumor?

Boers source is just a voice in his head. Dan's source is probably some young jhew kid who handles team accounting.

They're similar, but still not the real deal. Jansen's on 99th and Western has a pretty good deep-fried taco, but nothing compares to Jack In The Box...
