It must be pretty shameful to get caught stealing from the self-checkout. Not that I would know anything about the practice, but the best way to do it, if I knew the way to do it, would be with deli stuff where hey, for all you know, they didn't put the barcode sticker on right. It would also be critical to steal a glance at the little oversight terminal or whatever you'd call it to make sure no one is manning it, but not to be all obvious and "ooh, is The Coast Clear???" about it. And then you could, in theory, save six bucks on some chicken wings.

If only CVS or Walgreen's had Trader Joe's mandatory banter-about-your-purchases policy for their cashiers.

I don't understand how Trader Joe's always has cashiers a plenty and Walgreen's has like one person running the entire store. Walgreen's margins
on sales have to be higher than a grocery store's approaching zero profits. Yet it takes 20 minutes to buy a pack a gum and a newspaper at Walgreen's.

Jewel was formerly part of SuperValu and they were sold to a Wall Street investment firm. This firm is hoping to sell Jewel off for more money. So they dumped the preferred card and they are getting rid of self-checkout. I think most people are honest, but there are those who take steak up to the machine and put in the banana code.

The future holds the possibility to be great or terrible, and since it has not yet occurred it remains simultaneously both.

That's crap. I'll do extra "work" to not be hassled with small talk and people asking me if I'm having a party.

And, of course it's cost-savings. Nearly every aspect of your shopping experience is tainted with the stink of cost-savings. Why draw the line at this?

I would cover for SHARK, Drop In, Dave in Champaign, my Mom, and Urlacher's Missing Neck. After that, the list gets pretty thin. There are a few people about whom I would definitely fabricate charges.

If you hate Laurence, then don't listen - don't comment. When he co-hosts the B&B show, take that day off ... listen to an old podcast of a Bernstein solo show and jerk off all day.

Definitely cost saving. The service costs and frequency of breakdowns don't help, not to mention they are several years old and behind the curve at this point.
