That's always a good one. That, or I've heard "I care too much."

Believe it or not, one lady told me her former boss was an a-hole. The opening was for a management position. We ended the interview right there.

Exactly. 3 years ago I interviewed a Woman who had a folder full of information about my company..except she had the wrong company. Needless to say I didn't hire her.

Hopefully you will have a good interviewer. Most people who interview job candidates are bad at it. An interview should be a 2 way street, with the candidate interviewing me & my company as I am them. A good interviewer should take the time to review the companies strategy, philosophy & initiatives rather than asking the routine stupid questions.

Like my Dad used to tell me, you gotta sell yourself because no one else will. Be confident, friendly, make eye contact & smile.

Good luck!

When you are asked what you like to do in your spare time I would not answer that you like to go cheer on people eating plant based meals.

I received a cover letter last week where the person referred to the wrong job title, and the wrong company in the first sentence. I stopped reading right there. How could someone be that dumb?

Because they are copy/pasting and sending that same cover letter all over the place.

A couple years ago I had a guy hand me a resume with the email address of muffdiver4life@ hotmail or yahoo or whatever on it. I couldn't believe it. I told the guy to spend 5 minutes on gmail and get a new email address, or start looking for porn jobs on craigslist.

I understand that. But someone who pays that little attention to detail isn't even going to get a phone call from me.

The best advice I've ever been given regarding job interviews is to keep it brief, keep it to the point, and help the interviewer understand how you will specifically help the company. Not just because you can do the tasks listed in the job description, but why YOU should be the one doing it.

I've had a couple that I'm sure were unemployment people just looking to remain "active job seekers" in order to keep their benefits. There's no way people would bother to show up and act so disinterested.

Make sure your voice mail sounds professional. MANY times i've called to set up an interview and their message is something like " yeah, leave a message" or "you know the drill".

And don't say anything like "i'll get back to you at my earliest convenience". It comes across as: Oh you will? Sorry for bothering you..

Here is what you should do when going on a job interview:

1 - Learn everything you can about the company and position.

2- make sure to wear a suit with tie (you need to dress above the position).

3 - make sure to have at least 2 good questions prepared before hand (and nothing like when do I start or how much will I make?). When they ask do you have any question never say no I think i'm good... always ask as many questions as possible. The key is actually to have a conversation with the hiring person (50% you talk / 50% they talk)...

4 - Do a research on behavioral questions on google and practice those... A lot of employers like to ask these kinda questions.. (example: Give me an example when you went above and beyond your current responsibilities?)

4 - Bullshit (oversell yourself a little) as the hiring manager doesn't know you from a hole in the wall so embellish a little but not too much where what you say is not really your responsibilities (ie don't say you hired and fired people if you were an intern)..

5 - This is the most important advice I got about interviewing "You have to tell them what they want hear"... ie there looking at you and how you fit the position... make sure to hit the talking points from the job posting and how you have all those skill sets.

6 - Send a thank you email the same day or next day too all people who interviewed you... find a template on google thank you email job interviews..

good luck...
