I wouldn't necessarily ground her just for having the thought. I think that might just push him/her away further.

I would let them know in no uncertain terms that Mom or I found out that she was "partying hard" she would be grounded for a long, long time.

I gave you my honest answer. I wont have an environment where my kid will feel comfortable telling me their going to get wasted and if I somehow find out about it, I will immediately take steps to prevent it.

I think you are overestimating teenage drinking.

Ill admit a large portion will get drunk several times, but its like 70% probably. Not 100.

And its probably even less with females

I think it's possible to raise a child that won't ever get wasted. I'm saying, if you're child is going to drink junior and senior year of high school... would you rather that be out with her friends, or in your basement? If your answer is, she is never going to drink, I'll move on. That's not what I'm getting at.

I think it is short sighted to think my child wont drink. You just need to teach them the best you can and hope that they make the correct decision.

Why should any parent encourage their child to use the home to be a haven for drunken wildness just because they might do it elsewhere? For me it's the contrary. My thought is he'd better do it elsewhere because it won't be in my house.



When he's in college, obviously he's a grown ass man and hopefully by that point the lessons I've taught him will have kicked in. But the rules for what happens under my roof won't be different. I don't care if he's 36...if I'm not throwing drunken parties in my house, he sure as hell won't be.

Exactly. No matter what the hell we do as parents, those little crafty spawns of our loins are going to find a way to be stupid. I don't blame parents for wanting to do their best to control at least one moment of that stupidity.

If it has to be one or the other, I guess Id say not in my supervision, but with the reasoning that promoting the drinking culture early is a way bigger risk than the risk of her drinking with friends.

Aside from that, I will be militant on the drinking and driving/riding aspect and hope I raise her smart enough not to get wasted. She might have a few with friends, but not dangerous levels.

I think letting them drink at home leads to dangerous levels down the line.

Once weed becomes recreationally legal everywhere, which isn't far away, does everyone apply these same parenting guidelines(whichever side you fall on) to weed? Any differences?
