i was ready to unceremoniously dump RG3 before his ~18-19pts second half resulted in a solid ~23 points.... the redskins looked awful today. i wasn't paying full attention to them on screen #2, but what i saw was marinated ass.
teh reason RG3 was a !!! factor last year was because of the rushing yards/TDs, a la cam newton, who's very solid fantasy quarterback for the most part (i'm aware of his ~13/18pt outings to start the season) --- but yeah, if your QB can rush for anything like ~40/+ yards, be a goal line thread to score 6pt rushing touchdowns, and still be a competent ~250/+yds QB with ~2TDs, you can get catapulted into the mid-upper 20s rather easily.
that's why i've been adding terrell pryor as a QB2/3 depending on who my backup QB is.... if he's another from the michael vick / cam newton / rookie-rg3 / etc mould, well then sheeeeeit.... i'll either be in a position to have a poor man's cam newton or i'll be able to deal a QB1/QB2 depending on who i wanna roll with. of course terrell's satanic 6.66pt first half isn't making me look like a geenie-us.
btw, man, suffice to say this is flagrantly obvious in a PPR league, but methinks with the state of the game right now it's advantageous to have 3 ballin WRs more than it is to have 2 ballin RBs.... people love to shoot their wad on RBs early.... and i confess if i had the #1 overall pick i'd prolly take AP, concede losing out on rodgers/brees, and hope that i could end up with peyton/brady....cuz the way i see it, you want 20 every week from your QB, and then 10 from every WR/RB/TE/K/DEF/FLEX position you've got, that way it adds up right to 100, and if you're over 100 every week you're going to be in a position to make the playoffs and then make some noise.
last year was my best ever team in ~13 years of fantasy football. even tho i had ~400pts more than the rest of the league, i was still the #3/4 seed heading into the playoffs. then i dropped 143 and 162 on them and that's all she wrote, mr. ofman. and that team last year had demarco murray, reggie bush, lawfirm, and steelers RBs to supply my rushing attack.... so when bush was surprisingly solid all year and demarco effective when he was in there, along with ~8-12 per week floors from lawfirm... yeah, when your WRs are combining to drop ~70/+ points and your defense has like 5 games over 20 and ~2-3 over 27 or whatever, that's a problem.
of course, i missed my draft this year and ended up with rg3 and morris on the flagship, so now i've got a legit challenge going into the year.... how am i gonna upgrade my QB/RB combo without giving up my WRs (dez, vjax, colston)? do i have the balls to roll out there with flacco or pryor every week?
ah well.... c'est la vie. this current iteration of the offensive NFL is putting up a shit-ton of fantasy points.... for most of my ~13 years playing 10yds/pt (25/4pt-TDs for QB) getting 100 was enough to put you over the top 90-95% of the time.... if you hit like ~110 you were very likely to win. now? shit, i had a league with 47pts of peyton manning pushing me out in front at ~118pts last week, i didnt even watch MNF cuz i had it bagged.... and i wake up tuesday and lose 124-118? yikes.
so yeah, in today's NFL if you can clear ~60-75pts between your QB/WRs (assuming 3 WRs are in there str8up or flexed) and you've got some competent running backs, you'll be fine unless you've got some cosmic black hole @ TE and you have no chance of getting 10+ from your defense.
every time out i'd take aaron rodgers with the #2 pick onwards.... only AP goes first because he's the best RB and having him allows you some slack, but even if you had the #1 pick to get AP, you'll be sandwiched with 2 picks circa ~20-24 and then you can likely get the ass-end of the rodgers/brees/brady/peyton quartet, you'll prolly be able to get marshall/dez/aj-green (cuz those 3 are in a tier of their own, not counting calvin johnson who obviously is #1) and then boom! you're set....
but hey, if people think that going out there with pick #7 and boldly drafting ray rice with the first pick is the route to victory..... well then slap mah fro. ray rice had a shit today and i think he's overrated in fantasy.... frank gore v2.0, so now we're entering those early weeks where you gotta have a pair to start tossing in your ryan mathews, darren sproles, d'angelo williams, or even run-DMC/demarco or someone else for a guy like ray rice.....
TL;DR = in my eyes, fantasy football is all about having a weekly 20+pts QB and 3 WRs who have potential to drop 15-20/+ on you every week, with floors of ~6-8pts.... running backs are meat, they come and go and invariably if you're on top of things and grabbing handcuffs/newly-anointed-RBs and you can manage a couple'a guys who can get you 10-15 every week, you'll roll unless you have truly bad luck.
