IMO this quote alone removes Ausmus.

I think they are all in on Girardi. Francona I believe has an out clause in his Indians contract for after this season.

Barry Rozner. He is friends with some good baseball players. If you can't hire Ryno, you might as well get his lap dog. Besides, he knows it all.

How would be manager and have time to post about meeting Bill Cartwright?

Or co-host/fill-in on the Score. Ok Barry's out. Theo can just read his advice in the DH.

Would Girardi hire Ozzie?

Ozzie wants back! He leaves here, on the N side.

i'd actually love for it to be girardi if that somehow works out. he was able to work with a young-n-talented marlins team and get the most out of them despite the looming specter of montreal's prodigal son, jeffery loria. i also think that he'd add some years to his managerial career by getting out of the yankees pressurecooker and kicking back with theo and pals in the century club.

the problem is that i think girardi's got a wee bit of that harbaughian hardass in him, so i think he'd see it as bailing from the challenge of living up to jersey #28 (cuz girardi was his traditional #27 until he won the title, changing his # to 28 to reflect that championship #28 = what it's all about). you know, when you're a man's man and mister I WAS BORN TO LEAD and all that, methinks he'd be worried more about his image "as a man" if he were to step away.... so if the yankees shitcan him then by all means go that direction, especially when you consider that one knock on girardi is that he's shit with dealing with young pitching staffs.... it's not like the cubs have any young stud pitchers in the brier patch ready to frolic away next year or even 2015, so he wouldn't be screwing up anything by doing his thing over here.

since that's likely pie in the sky (* waves to ryno *), methinks bernstein is prolly right that theo and co dig the mike maddux experience.... and if these last couple'a years helped mike get "ready" for the job (i.e. i don't wanna show up there and lose ~200 games in the first 2 years and end up being shitcanned for maintaining the status quo, aka getting "sveumed") and he's pretty sure that he's not going to start off as a very losing manager, well then..... in the immortal words of pharoahe monch: bring it on!

awwww shit, maddox was one of my favorite reads growing up on the internet. his vintage musings were top top quality.... tho he's kind of mellowed with age and the times, especially when he's branched out from being a guy with an awesome website to being mr. media conglomerate of that website's brand. it changed after the alphabet of manliness came out.... his video series seems kind of weirdly rushed (almost like he's nervous and reading extra fast to stay in time with the script) and his other attempts to branch out to TV have largely fizzled out, so c'est la vie.... at least he's updating a bunch more these days.

somewhere somehow i lost my golden alphabet of manliness tour shirt.... i got one of the gold ones that he gave out to ~5 "cool" fans he picked out at each signing, along with a giftbag including a poster, calendar, mousepad, and of course jerky and hot sauce.... that was proper. the Q&A session was chock full of pokemon-generation/younger nerds so it was truly sterile until i had the werewithol to ask the questions that matter such as "do toilets cry when you take a shit?" or "what's your favorite legendary superweapon from the annals of human folklore?"

ah well, agent tangent here clocking out as i'm now off duty and off the clock. hopefully beerstain can provide some entertainment!

Could be helpful with the latin players--except for the Cubans.

Also, Ozzies kids + Ricketts family could provide some comic relief.

This is why 1-35 odds isn't right. Look at it as ,"what do the Cubs deserve?"

No manager would want Ozzie sitting on the bench with them, especially in Chicago. He's too big of a personality to not cause problems in the long-run.

Maybe after sitting in the Yankees dugout for six seasons, Girardi realizes the value of having an a-rod type personality distracting the media from how you keep leaving CC in the game too long and didn't demote Curtis Granderson in the lineup soon enough. which is why if Girardi's hired, this former Cub would be a good candidate for 1B coach:

Theo may be dismayed by the Indians' late run if he was targeting Francona. Or I should say Ricketts would be dismayed, as it will cost more to get him.

Girardi 2-1
Francona 5-1
Brenly 20-1

Quote:
The Cubs are kicking their managerial search into gear as they await word on whether or not their top candidate New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi will spurn the Yankees' new contract offer to discuss a move to Chicago. Sources have confirmed that former Indians and Nationals skipper Manny Acta is in Chicago today to meet with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer.

Acta is considered to be a very bright baseball man but his lack of success with two different teams has to be considered a major stumbling block to him eventually getting the Cubs' job after the public pursuit of the high-profile Girardi has raised the fan base’s hopes for a major hire. Acta has a 372-518 record between his time in Cleveland and Washington.

In addition the Cubs have already met with former Arizona manager A.J. Hinch who had an unsuccessful run with the Diamondbacks but is considered to be another very intelligent baseball mind by many around the game. Hinch compiled an record 89-123 record in 212 games as the Arizona manager and is now the vice president of scouting of the San Diego Padres a position he has held since 2010.

Another candidate for the Cubs' opening is Padres bench coach Rick Renteria who is a highly-respected coach but has only minor-league managerial experience. He has been in coaching and player development since he retired as a player in 1994 and started his managerial career in the Florida Marlins' system in 1998. He moved from the Marlins to the Padres' organization in 2003 and joined San Diego's major league coaching staff in 2008 and was named their bench coach in 2011.

Epstein and Hoyer are expected to continue the interview process in Arizona later this week and one major-league source confirmed that the Cubs are expected to cast a wide net if Girardi stays in New York. - See more at: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/ ... 63zZZ.dpuf
