From Tribune

Quote:
Staff report
12:08 p.m. CDT, October 1, 2013

Police were at the scene of what was believed standoff in or near a South Loop rail yard this morning.

Police were on the scene of a possible standoff south of Roosevelt Road at Lumber Street, west of the Chicago River, according to Chicago Police.

Railroad police discovered someone trespassing on railroad property, the person may be threatening suicide, police said. Chicago Police were called in to help deal with the situation, police said.

A Metra spokeswoman said Metra police were not involved, but that the situation was disrupting service on the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe lines and could disrupt Metra Southwest Service if it continues later into the afternoon.

Check back for updates.

The Metra had a noticeable police presence at every stop between union and edgebrook yesterday.

I think that was moreso for the CTA train crash, because some idiots tried to claim that the train was hijacked.

If the terraissss realized how soft the middle underbelly of the US and A is and how much nationwide panic they could create with something far less
scary than, say, the Nairobi mall attack, well, it's a good thing they only know NYC and LA.

Southwest Service, one of the few Metra lines I've never taken.

I thought the Heritage Corridor (which I count as having taken via Amtrak) is the one no one uses. I think the Southwest serves some purpose.

Oh yeah, ok that's the other one.

I was thinking trains that go southwest, instead of the actual Southwest line

Metra's nomenclature is really confusing. What is a heritage corridor? Anything that includes Summit and Romeoville is more like a shit corridor. Why is Clybourn Station not on Clybourn? What is Healy?

Oh yeah, that's my old hood, South Shore. 71st and Jeffery. My guess is that Bryn Mawr must've lived in the area, because there's an elementary school with the same name on 73rd and Jeffery.

Bryn Mawr is Welsh for something, it wasn't a person.

I wasn't sure if it was "big hill" or "white hill" and I didn't want to get caught not knowing my Welsh.

Northwest line has a "Cumberland" in Des Plaines that isn't near Cumberland Avenue.

Big hill.

Ahh...there used to be train tracks that went through the South Shore area, but it was shut down and paved over, so it looks a diagonal hill that goes through the neighborhood. Probably was done well after the naming, but could be a possibility.

I think the Heritage Corridor only runs like 4 times a day.
