Oh man, LOL, here is the hilarious segment where an addled old man who lives in a home is put on the air to talk about a movie that he may/may not have actually watched! Non-sequiturs, don't forget those, he is SO funny with those!!!!

Someone please tell me what Dan would do if some radio sports hack in Arizona started having his father call in and do the same thing with them? Would he laugh along?

Also: any comedy extracted here is easily offset by the sadness of it.

I think segments like this and the Mike in Milwaukee one indicate that Dan may have been one of those kids who took great pleasure in burning ants on a sunny day with the help of a magnifying glass.

You ain't alone, Vegan. I've heard that Dan plays a "character", but it takes a lot of hatred to laugh at a guy who is an obvious alcoholic or has a mental handicap on a major radio station. I suppose it's okay, as long as Dan doesn't post pics of Mike's wife on a message board.

Dan just said fighting will end now that "an all-time great player who is the general manager of a heritage team" is against it. He means Steve Yzerman, but Yzerman doesn't run the Red Wings. He runs the decidedly non-heritage Tampa Bay Lightning.

Besides, I think the bigger story is that Scotty Bowman is against fighting. He's the most successful non-player in the history of the league, and he's speaking as a guy whose teams once featured Joe Kocur and Bob Probert.

I thought current players don't give a crap about the history of their sport or those who came before them? Or is it different in hockey?

Oh, no. It's way different. You don't become a hockey player because you're dirt-ass poor and 300 pounds. These guys are all students of the game.

It's shocking to me just how long this has been going on - I assume, with most people, it would have never gone this far as they would have stepped in for their dad/uncle/grandpa etc. Maybe he doesn't have a lot of family around...or are they not aware of it? I'd be so pissed if I found out that they were having my addled father on the air, WEEKLY, to "review" movies and stumble through rating them etc. I know the argument can be made that "well, it makes him happy - he enjoys calling in" - but holy crap does it seem just mean. And keep in mind, this is coming from the ignorant monster who thinks it's ok to comment on a publicly shared picture of a host's wife!!!!!!!!!!!

I think he's doing this to prepare himself for what Terry's contribution's to the show are going to be like in a few years.

Or right this minute, and he just wants Terry to be surrounded by others who have similar linguistic skills.

I think a lack of empathy is one common denominator here. As much as I enjoy some of Bernstein's sports thoughts, he gets quite disturbing when he separates the world into Very. Smart. People and dumbasses. This is particularly so when he makes fun of brain-damaged football players, and when he asserts he's more than happy to see someone else's kid damage their brain so as long as Bernstein gets to watch it all on Sundays.

Let's say 10-15 retired football players died next week as a result of random violence or an accident. I don't think Dan would care, and if he did express sadness, I would not take it seriously. Dan likes to cast himself as a humanist when it comes to other, well-known issues he discusses on the show, but no genuine humanist would speak so callously about CTE and other stuff the way he does, let alone exploit alcoholics (if they do indeed have problems) for cheap laughs on his show. In his world, dumb people live long enough to keep the smarts mildly entertained, then they die off to make room for a new generation of brainless wastes of flesh.

Reading between the lines on Dan's admiration for Charlie Pierce and his fountain of righteous anger, it almost sounds like Dan is saying that he doesn't have a lot of genuine righteous anger and has to work hard to contrive it. Anyone else pick it up this way?

Dan re-acknowledges Alex Brown and his personal pronouns...

sorry Curious, I missed it. I picture Dan taking off the headphones, going home after work and not saying three words. He's really soft spoken off the air.

So now Illinois is good. And the only way to combat that to support their earlier opinions of Tim Beckmann is that the players are responsible for the success. This is the new narrative for Illinois football.

Except Coach Fitz. That guy's a genius.

They only mean Illinois when they say that. FYI.

I just realized the Yahoo piece Dan read on the air was by Ryan Lambert. Hahahaha man you've gotta know better than that.
