The Saturation got to me. I wont watch even the old ones now

The old ones have gotten really good to me lately because I went about five years without watching any of them. Every now and then, you kinda have to take a few years off.

I'm approaching that point with The Office now. I loved the show so much and have watched so often that I'm getting to where I'll just need to step away for a good long while.

yeah, Im the same way with The Office

Family Guy, Seinfeld, and All in the Family are the only shows where I never get sick of it

I disagree that every Lisa episode is bad. Most are really bad but Lisa the Vegetarian is one of the best episodes ever.

The Bleeding Gums Murphy Dies episode pissed me off because of their use of 'Jazzman' by Carole King ... and I don't mind Carloe King ... I mean, I'm not expecting a Dexter Gordon chart, but c'mon man ... Tom Scott is good and all but how (by) crackery does it have to get ...

Yep.

Dont get me wrong, Lisa is still annoying and unfunny but the episodes are good.

There are a few exceptions with Lisa, granted. But I just find her to be the least interesting and the least likable of all the Simpsons characters.

Back in the VCR only days, me and my group of friends would tape each episode and watch it a couple of times so we could talk about it the next day.

My name is Ed, and I'm a tool.

Even when the show started going down hill, you could still count on The Treehouse of Horrors for a return to form. Even that went to shit.

Some classic Treehouse lines: "Uh, Dad, that's his crotch."

"He came to life. Good for him."

"It's not rocket science, Smithers. It's brain surgery."

Nothing to be embarrassed about, Ed. I taped the entire first run of seasons 1 and 2 when I was a kid.

Any episode centered around Lisa is an automatic stinker anyway

besides the episodes mentioned, there are some great "Lisa" episodes that i think you may be forgetting about. the character itself isn't great but these are excellent episodes:

"The Summer of 4 Ft. 2"
"Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy"
"Lisa the Iconoclast"
"Lisa's Pony"
"Lisa the Greek"
"Lisa's First Word"
"Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment"
"Lisa's Substitute"
"Lisa's Sax"

Incidentally, "Lisa's First Word" is my second all time favorite episode of "The Simpsons". I don't really recognize it as a show on the air anymore. It started sucking around 2002 and became unwatchable around 2011.

The Globex episode has always been my favorite.

The Who Shot Mr. Burns 2-parter was always my favorite.

So many great lines.

It can be said without question that the best episode was by far the Beer Baron.

"Homer, what are you doing with all those bowling balls?"

Clearly I am partial to 'you only move twice', but beer baron is pretty darn good. I think it's part of the greatest season ever. Scorpio, beer baron, Frank grimes, gay episode... I'm sure I'm forgetting some. It is the 1927 Yankees of seasons.

i don't think anything tops the 5th season as far as consistency and quality. there's almost no way to dictate the "best" episode of the show but my favorite will always be "bart sells his soul". profound, hilarious, and touching. extremely well written.

Lisa's Substitute is the ep that really showed the heart of the show. Touching and beautifully written. Fun fact: Dustin Hoffman went uncredited. The teacher was played by "Sam Etic."

I remember the first episode that ran against Cosby on a Thursday night: Bart Gets an F. It was the one where Bart prayed for a snow day and got it. Really funny stuff.

"and maggie makes three" has one of the sweetest endings ever in a "simpsons" episode, along with "lisa's first word". if your heart doesn't melt, you have no heart...or you're lady stoneheart.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying here about the Simpsons, but I think Lisa provides much more to the show than someone like Marge in terms of interesting/humorous angles. For example I enjoy some of the episodes which highlight the intellectual incongruity between her and her family, the general city, her school, etc. When they do that well, they raise good questions about public schooling, parenting, intelligence theories, and other social critiques, along with some decent humor.

With regards to least interesting, I'd go with Marge and her sisters, with the sisters being the most unlikable of all for me. I don't mind Marge like I mind her sisters, I just think she's often more boring than everyone else. Lionel Hutz, Burns, and Chief Wiggum are some of my favorite supporting cast characters.

there are some great patty & selma episodes, too...like "selma's choice", "homer vs. patty and selma", and "a fish called selma".

really, the episodes that revolve around a certain character, depending on how well they're written, have defined all of them as well rounded throughout the years. personal preference can come into it, but i don't think any of the supporting characters can be considered flat...except maybe barney. and when they tried to make him sober...it really didn't work.

shall we start a "simpsons" conversation thread? because i could go on for hours about that show.

It's interesting that Selma was the one who always got a few touches of humanity while Patty never really rose above unlikable background character. Probably figured it'd be confusing to divide them up equally.
