Little known fact. Before Girardi took the Yankee job and he was unemployed for about a year, could have lived anywhere in the world. He chose to live in Deerfield, IL. He knew he would be taking a job elsewhere, so he knew it would be temporary.

The guy is a long time Cub fan, Northwestern Guy, Joliet.

You want Ditka status in this town. Manage the Cubs to a World Series. Has to be the most tempting managerial job i in sports. Also, assuming you are bouncing off a low point. Not far from the low point, but still, 2nd half of this season should have been a lowpoint.

To be clear, I dont think Girardi is a savior, but I think he is a very good choice for the job some say you dont even need to have someone for. I dont agree with that at all. The 5 games a manager might be responsible for are the difference in a season for many.

But I am not close to satisfied. Theo, Jed, Girardi, New Plans for Park, more draft picks than the NBA, its all great. Right now it shows me nothing.

I'm trying to do some research on the A.J. Hinch thing, and it sounds like the Diamondbacks, with one of Theo's old Boston lieutenants at the helm, wanted to rethink what a manager had to be. Hinch was a catcher and had worked in scouting, but had no experience coaching or managing at any level. (Vinny!) What he DID have, however, was a degree in psychology from Stanford!

Quote:
Arizona GM Josh Byrnes admitted the hiring of somewhat without coaching experience but with a psychology degree from Stanford was “unconventional.”
“He brings unique leadership and perspective to the job,” Byrnes said. “We’re not here to reinvent the wheel, but to change the nature of the job a little bit? OK, we’ll do that. A.J.’s a leader. He connects with people. He gets things done.

Obviously there’s a piece of experience he doesn’t have. He’s going to have to learn on the job…He’s never done a double switch before, but he knows what it looks like. He’ll figure it out.”

He didn't. No one wanted to play for the guy because no one took him seriously. Sometimes the conventional wisdom is right for a reason.

Yeah....I am not excited about AJ Hinch. But really after the Quade into Sveum experience it shouldn't be hard to upgrade this position

I cant believe that AJ Hinch was even mentioned as a possible Cubs Manager candidate. Terrible. No. Never. Ever.

You know everything! Who would you hire? You have to decide right now, today. Keep in mind that your butt buddy Sandberg is under contract like Girardi is.

If you want to argue this point as it pertains to Rizzo, feel free.

But it just doesn't work with Castro. His first three years are a large enough sample size to show he is a quality major league hitter...when he goes with an approach he is comfortable with.

Rizzo has one full season in MLB

He hit 23 homeruns and had 80 RBI.

Sure you want to throw that out?

You're seriously going to give someone shit for saying that A.J. Hinch would be a terrible choice? Okay.

I would say the longer this goes with the Yankees not getting a deal done with Girardi the more likely it is that he is the next manager of the Cubs.

I don't see the Yankees letting this drag out. They seem to want an answer sooner than later. He either agrees to an extension in the next few days or they pull the offer and move on to getting Donny Baseball. That allows the Angels to send Sciocia to the Dodgers. Girardi could trigger a huge series of events with this decision.

Hey,Girardi is my 1st choice, but if the Cubs can't get him, I would be happier with Tracy then some of these other clowns they are interviewing. I don't see why that's a bad baseball opinion.

It's going to really blow for the new manager if Girardi stays with New York

'Hey Mr. Manager, how does it feel to be the very public fall back choice for the Cubs especially knowing you are being paid millions less per year than Joe would'

It's just sloppy.

The blind faith believer in me wants to believe that Theo/Jed have some extremely solid information that Joe is coming here otherwise it's really really bad form.

Dan already knows exactly what happened.

Dan Bernstein ‏@dan_bernstein
Family concerns win out over more money, as Joe Girardi stays in NY. #Cubs now move to fall-back candidates.
