Let's see now:

* The Ryan Dempster fiasco where he is listening in to his own trade

* The hiring of Dale Sveum...two years of nothing much ( I still think he got screwed)

* The failed Girardi chase

* The Kevin Gregg miscommunication.

* Edwin Jackson 52 million dollar contract

* There are about two other screwups I forgot about

* Jay Cutler is still yet to be determined...Theo gets blamed for that too.

Those are just the screw ups we know about. What happens if none of these young guys work out in 2015? I'm getting worried, where is IMU to tell me the Cubs will be fine? Someone hold me...

I call that a wash right now with a slight edge to the Padres, but he was terrible against LHP. That makes him Brian LaHair with a better press agent.

Strike 1 (Year one) Naming D.Sveum as manager over Ryno.

Call me a homer, but if you know you are going to be bad and attendence is going to fall, then you NEED to hire Ryno, if for nothing else to bring people to the park. He already worked in the minors with success. This was a no brainer hire. WIFFF

Strike 2 (Year two) Firing D.Sveum to miss out on Giradi and Signing E.Jackson to a long-term deal when you could have just signed P.Malhom for 1/2 the cost.

The only saving grace he has are the prospects he drafted and traded for. If they end up busting in (Year 3) then Strike THREE your out Theo! and you did it the Cubbie way.

What a bizarre thought. No one goes to the stadium to watch the manager. Most of the people can't even see him!

Yeah, what about the "Harry Caray" attendance booster when he was an announcer? He supposedly drew people in.

That's ridiculous if he drew a meaningful number of people who otherwise wouldn't have attended the game.

Really, none of this matters if those prospects end up hitting at the MLB level. All else will be forgotten and really, wasn't that what he was brought here for anyway?

People would come for Ryno and overlook bad baseball because of it. I personally believe they would be better and we would be closer to a WS.

Say they both go on to average what they did this year, the Padres won that deal

Drafting prospects is only part of the GM's responsibilities. Hiring, trading and signing FA are also very important. So far he failed in those categories. I am not a big fan of Rizzo and would have traded Castro last year when his trade value was high. Theo is the Chicago Cubs version of J.Cutler. "Just wait until.... " A)Prospects mature, B)Stadium is remodeled C)2015 um 16, well maybe 18

Because "spend unlimited money" is no longer an option, no, Epstein doesn't have a clue.

Padres didn't give Cashner $41 million either.

I realize that Theo wasn't responsible for one of these deals, but wouldn't a rotation built around Archer and Cashner be a lot better than what they've got now?

There was a point Gio Gonzalez, Daniel Hudson, Gio Gonzalez, and Clayton Richard looked pretty good.

Right, and I'd still rather have Gonzalez and Hudson rather than most of those shitty guys they do have. And if I could have two Gonzalezes that would be even better. But those guys were traded in pursuit of a championship and very reluctantly, not as part of some ambiguous "plan" to do I don't know what.

No Theo has no clue

Any decent gm would have won the WS by year 2.

He should sign free agents first and ask questions later.

Do you realize this team could have Paul Maholm, Jeff Keppinger, AND Sean Marshall?!!??!
This whole build from the minors up thing is a scam. No team has ever won a ws without at least 15 free agents. Im not sure why they even have a minor league system.

Rizzo is worthlesz. if all you got for me at age 23 is 20homeruns and 80rbis you can keep it movin cuz we got guys like Bryan LaHair ready to go

Also Cashner nearly made most of his starts this year and i havent checked but im sure his team is in the playoffs

Finally, JimmyPasta is a thinking mans fan and not just a guy who bitches no matter what

1) No one said he should have won the WS in year 2
2) No one said he should have signed a bunch of FA henry style.
3) Not sure what it is your trying to say here. No one said they would have won WS with those players. Only that Maholm makes more sense then E.Jackson (do you disagree?)
4) No one said Rizzo is worthless. He just isn't going to be the superstar they where hoping for when they traded for him. Any average 1B should hit 20hr 80rbi's a year. He is a dime a dozen.
5) No one said Cashner is Cy Young or he could carry a team to the playoffs. But when you don't have any young pitching you shouldn't trade away the little you do have and spend 40MIL for E.Fuckin Jackson.
6)Finally, Jimmy pasta is not a meatball fan who thinks Theo Epstein is a genius. IF his draft picks don't pan out in the Major Leagues. He is a fraud and fans like you will be crying, watching reruns of game 5 2003 series, with a box of tissues.
Anyone can tank a couple seasons and "hit" on a prospect or two. Not impressed with Theo so far. Hopefully he will prove us wrong and they will win the WS.

Go ahead and keep drinking the cool aid, while posting things that no one has said. Just don't choke on the sugar at the bottom of the Cup when it is empty.

Who the hell chokes on the sugar at the bottom of the cup?
