I'm sure Castro and others rolled their eyes at Swaimer and had a hard time identifying with him and likewise the US players would do the same with Acta. I'm interested in his relationship with Rizzo from their short time together in SD.

He's got baseball face.

I like it.

I think Theo and Jed should put a ton of focus on the development of Asian relievers. That's if the business end doesn't want to create a "Cubs Ex-Wives" charity to cover for the Girardi fiasco. Hello Dave Martinez.

Not hiring Sandberg will go down as one of the worst decisions in Chicago sports history.

I love how all of the national writers are dancing around his past.

Jon Heyman

Martinez has an excellent reputation as a Rays coach, though he wasn't necessarily viewed as managerial material when he was a Cubs player a couple decades ago.

I thought the Cubs had a much respected coach in Dave McKay. What's wrong with his resume?

I'm surprised Sandy Alomar Jr hasn't been interviewed yet. Not crazy about Acta. Renteria? He may be a sleeper once hired but that seems like another reach.

Tony Pena should warrant an interview as well.

#1 What in the hell do they see in Hinch? I know he was a former player but he was still a suit that came down from the front office and put on the uniform and did not command the respect of his players. Now that he is a suit again do they really think guys are going to respect him as their field general?

#2 Why do they want a potentially divisive coach like Acta? All of the other latino heritage coaches seem like they will command the respect of the entire clubhouse where I just do not see it with Acta. I think you have Swaimer 2.0 the dominican version with him.

#3 both of the above have been fired as big league managers for doing a shitty job. Martinez, Sandy and Renteria have not had that opportunity but they have all been around at the big league level for many years.

#4 The more time I have had to think about it the more I believe the Girardi stuff was fanboy Ricketts telling his boys what he wanted for xmas. I think the opportunity was worth exploring but I don't think it was in the blueprints originally. This is like the 5th big rumor that has been floated and has been dead ass wrong in 2 years. Ricketts needs to stop meddling.

Well, first of all, Hinch is in the Epstein tree. He was hired by Josh Byrnes in Phoenix, who got his start under Theo in Boston, before being picked up again in San Diego, where Hoyer just was. He's a smart guy. Most important, he was so disgraced as a manager that to salvage his career he will have no choice but to be kind of like another Art Howe, where all he does is exactly what he's told.

The counter-argument, though, is that who says another Art Howe is a good thing, anyway? Successful leaders know how to delegate. Why not have a field manager whom you can trust to put on his own pants in the morning? And why, if you don't absolutely have to, would you hire a guy who we know isn't taken seriously by young players?

AJ Hinch is a cocksucker who the Sox drafted in the second round but couldn't sign. another wasted Sox pick.

some enterprising homeland security agent would overhear him in response to where he is going to be until boarding say "at the bar" and mistake it for "allah akbar"

Scratch Renteria & Martinez, Bernstein's guy just relayed that "they interviewed well".

I guess they didn't win the interviews, just did well. And now they have the predictive Bernstein stink about them.

Too bad.

Really who gives a shit? The next guy is just a Theo mouthpiece anyway. I think Dale Sveum used to display frustration here & there. It cost him the job.
