In JORR's eyes the Cubs haven't done 1 right thing the minute Theo walked in. No matter what occurs it's rationalized as a debacle.

Unless you're a fan of the teams in Kane County and Daytona, I don't see how anyone could argue that point.

Easily. But I'm not filled with irrational misplaced hate. All this ridicule should be for Ricketts not Theo.

 You may not have irrational misplaced hate, but you sound like you have an irrational crush on Theo Epstein.

Get real, clowns, the fake and trumped up "Theo Obsession" is a result of unnatural and unwarranted love heaped upon this Boy Genius, without second thought. The very blind love that is puked out over the TV and airwaves and internet at a constant rate, or at least it used to be. Take that set up and insert some other Jewish Zionist Illuminati member and you'd have the same thing. The Sun Times had a picture of this dude walking on water....c'mon now. This just sounds like a natural reaction.

What's more pathetic? Well it's Cubs fans spreading falsehoods about a certain small sect of Chicago sports fans being "obsessed with Theo." This is all just another way for a larger sect of Chicago Sports Fans to protect their Jesus and worship him. It's sick and wrong.

And yes, I will laugh a laugh when it implodes.

That being the case, why didn't they just let him finish his contract? Was it because they thought they were going to get Girardi? If that's true, then they're making some pretty big miscalculations, don't you think?

Possibly

Maybe the thought was, "Were getting rid of Dale next year anyway, and Girardi is a real possibiltity. Let's take our shot and if it doenst work out, we were going to get rid of him anyway"

He has made moves that are supposed to be for the future. He came to the Cubs 2 years ago and almost immediately started preaching that. Well, that future is now to a certain extent. If the moves he has made do not start paying dividends at the big league level in 2014, then its going to be really hard to say that Theo has been doing good things for the organization over the last few years.

I'm not saying the Cubs have to win the 2014 World Series, but there really is no reason in this day and age of baseball that after two completely awful seasons that the Cubs cannot win ~85 games and be in contention for the play in Wild Card until at least mid September. That isn't asking for a whole lot in Theo's 3rd year.

For anybody that is OK with the Cubs doing less than that in 2014, they must have an irrational crush on Theo Epstein.

He was fired because they believed he was hurting the development of the players. If he was hired to suck, and then fired because he sucks, that is the worst move that our favorite obsession has made with the Cubs. It would be better for Theo if he thought Sveum was the next Francona and was simply wrong. To hire Sveum as a placeholder and then he is so bad at his job that he can't even be a placeholder for the whole three years is really bad.

Wow, you're really working all the angles to find the worst possible way to frame this.

They may have been wrong about Sveum. I definitely think he was a place holder. Not hired to suck. I think they thought he'd be good with young kids, while they got better.

Like I wrote, I think they figured "Girardi is available, might as well take the shot, were gonna replace Dale anyway"

I dont really think its that bad of a gaffe. But Im not real big on managers mattering anyway.

RPB, I don't think Girardi was ever really available. He never even made it to the true open market. To me it just seems like its more hope that a lot of Cubs fans bought into pretty easily.

I believe the Cubs were used as leverage by Girardi, but its not that far fetched that he would come here is it?

Maybe the fans bought in, I dont think its that crazy though.

Its not that crazy of a notion that he would come here, but its kind of a crazy idea that he would be here when his contract wasn't even up with the Yankees yet.

I don't know how much leverage the Cubs actually were, because from everything I've read it sounds like the Cubs were offering more years and more money than the Yanks signed him for.

Hope™. It's our thing. We've turned into into a multi-million dollar industry.

Yeah, and from what I've read Girardi was being pushed by Ricketts and Kenney. Being the modern type baseball man that he is, I find it hard to believe that Theo puts a huge premium on the manager. So I figure his thought process might have been that if Girardi is going to make the owner happy and he's willing to pay for him, it's not a battle I want to fight. Also, these guys are undoubtedly aware that Cub Nation is at least beginning to grumble. There are more new jimmypastas everyday. Firing a manager is something you do when you can't really do anything else.

A placeholder indicates not really providing any value besides watching them lose. It's kind of like "well, we have to have a manager while we lose as much as possible". Now, if Sveum was hired to be a developer of young talent then we have a different conversation. However, that one is bad too because Theo then hired a developer of talent and then fired him for not being a developer of talent.

The problem is that Theo subtly, and at a few points not so subtly, bashed Sveum in the press conference.

Well, if you're gonna get a place holder you might as well get one that serves a second purpose. Its not like you get the worst guy possible

It was not handled smoothly. I just dont think it matters that much.

Do you think that is Theo's plan though? It just seems like you have decided next year is the year for them.

Unless Ricketts is pressuring him because of ticket sales concerns I still think 2015 is the first team he thinks even has a chance at the playoffs.

It shows that Theo didn't view him as a placeholder. You don't bash a guy you expected to sit there and do nothing.

If Robin Ventura is a placeholder I doubt the Sox are bashing him on the way out as Girardi comes to town in 2 years when the Yankees fire him.

Yes, I picked that year a while ago. I think the two years of fuckery is as much as can be expected. Also, the fact that 81 wins can get you in the playoffs makes me think it's even more of a reasonable expectation.

We'll see. I think this year, competitive, next year going to playoffs

I guess so. Not sure I blame Sveum for everything, but not good results.

He wouldn't be that blatant but kind of. He'd thank him for doing his best and say it was a tough decision but they felt that a change was needed. An Ivy League grad should be able to use enough corporate speak to say things without saying anything.
