Yeah, but Little Caesars could fit their budget.

True. They would be dead in a few weeks or wish they were.

He followed that up by hitting 40 consecutive Old Country Buffets becoming golf's first 40/40 man.

$700 a month is PLENTY of money to feed a family. Not steak and lobster, but not gruel either. Let's be honest: many of us would likely be healthier if we limited our food spending to that amount. For one thing, it would mean drinking much more water and less soda, coffee, etc.

I feed 1.5 people (have daughter half the time) on about 50$ a week. (that icludes some nom food essentials like tooth paste etc)

700 seems about right for a family of 5

Do food stamps cover non food essentials?

Its a fine line. You want to give enough but not too much. I dont think you want people comfortable in welfare.

Not to speak for ugie but it seems that his thought process was that food stamps aren't supposed to cover 100% of your food costs.
Food stamps are to supplement and cover shortfalls that happen... not a 100% free food forever program.

It does. Some people have more income and get less assistance. The ones who have no income or very little for the size of their family get more. I can feed a family of 4 on about $400 a month (doesn't include eating out). Primarily because I don't waste much. There were months when we used to spend $800 or more on groceries when there was a family of 5.

Alls I'm sayin is that for the gubmunt to put in the first $700 to feed a family of 5 is a whole lotta dimp.

People shop dumb. My wife goes to the a store tricking 5 times a week this and that. Always ends up buying extra waste every trip. People can get by on very little when not spoiled and dumb.

There is no way I could get by on 100 a week and I don't waste a lot. We buy some junk though. I know why ours is a little higher but you guys need to post your secrets or weekly menus.

I try to make something that will last for more than 1 day. If I can occasionally squeeze 3 days out of it I've hit a home run. Spaghetti is one thing I can get mileage out of and it still taste good.

We had our credit card broken down into categories at the end of last year. I didn't think our grocery part was bad. I always think I could get about $20 a week off and then I never do. I like cooking and eating too much.

I'd worry far more about giving billions of dollars to banks and companies that have billions of dollars already available than I would to people who may or may not technically need it for food, because ... well clearly my priorities are fucked up.

BTW do you dumb shits think there are droves of dregs lining up to buy lobster with food stamps? If not, then why even mention it - other than because some half-assed article put it in your head?

Dominicks and a lot of places have the 4oz tails on sale for 5$ pretty often
you could probably get away with getting 1 or 2 of those, not like a 60$ cold water Australian one

If I've learned anything from writing, it's that people will use half-truths and partial stats to fit their own agenda. I agree that the author clearly wanted to spark a nerve by mentioning lobster and food stamps, which would generate discussion, which would equate more page views.

But that's not the reason why I started this thread. I was just bored and thought it was an interesting fact.

Fair enough then.

The Cardinals have finished in last place only three times in a hundred years.

I worked in a grocery store for a couple years. In my opinion and experience, the WIC program is how all food assistance should be structured.

Food stamps were abused. I saw a lot of 'non-essentials' purchased with food stamps. That isnt the people's fault, if you give someone 200 bucks and set them loose in a grocery store they are going to buy whatever the hell they want to. There should be essentials you have to purchase to promote healthy eating, not unlimited junk food, snacks and steaks.

Lobster has been cheaper than most beef for almost two years now, so the lobster thing is pretty stupid.

You can get whole live lobsters for $5/lb. at H-mart.

yeah, i was reading awhile back that the supply has far outpaced demand in recent times resulting in lower prices
