i like Asik a lot, but not sure about this one being so awful

I think it was awful because he was young, productive, and afforded the front office a lot of flexibility if they wanted to make a move using him or Noah. At the very least they could have predicted they'd be priced out of re-signing him, and figured out how to get something in return for him rather than letting him walk for nothing.

The only players who should walk away from your team without getting anything in return are has-beens or benchwarmers/scrubs. Asik wasn't any of these things.

I don't think GarPax believed Houston (or anyone else) would throw that type of money at him, considering that in Chicago he showed no ability to score around the basket unless he was dunking. It was a bad assumption on their part though. Somehow he got to Houston and developed an offensive touch out of nowhere.

Neither deal was bad. They didn't pay a lot of money for either guy, and they went to the playoffs the year they brought in Griffey. Two very low-risk moves.

i don't think it was so much that he mysteriously developed an offensive game out of nowhere, moreso that he just got more minutes and more opportunities, plus his free throw shooting improved a little bit...no Mark Price but did improve
plus, still remember he averaged 10ppg last year, that's not exactly Lebron and Durant territory there.

The winner hands down is Alex Gonzalez's father not pulling out the night he was conceived.

I do blame Dusty for not going out to the mound but even with him sitting on his stupid ass chewing toothpicks, Prior got the double play ball he needed to. Fucking Alex Gonzalez.

Paying $200MM too much for a team that hasn't won in over a century, a crumbling (& small) pile of bricks and retaining Crain Kenny as a trusted adviser.

But at least most of the fan base is still delusional, so there is that.

This was a bad decision that did get fixed:

Dallas Green ignoring Andre Dawson's request to offer him a contract.

What about the College of Coaches, jimmy? Was that a good or bad decision? Because I'm thinking a rotating lineup of Ausmus, Renteria, Hinch, and Acta spells WORLD SERIES!

I'm not really familiar with this story, but didn't Andre leave town when his career was finished anyway? Losing him at the point he left really wasn't a big deal.

I think he means that Dawson was following Green around begging to play for the Cubs and Green had no interest until he nearly got him for free.

Yes,JORR is correct. I could not believe at that time the Cubs were showing no interest. Andre loved playing 81 games on natural grass.

The '84 team is easily the best Cub team in my lifetime.

That much better than 08?

It's weird but to me, the best they ever were was in Sept/Oct 03. Had it all working

I still stick with the 1970 Cubs as being the most talented, but '84 was pretty good, too.

I never thought much of the pitching in '08.

'70 was a really good team. Big hole in center. But that was the year Hickman was just fucking ridiculous.

Dick Jauron picked #83

and Cablevision was by far worst thing ever. Shifted attendance to North side.

It's the same thing, isn't it? The On-TV/Sportsvision package was just the precursor to Cablevision, right? Eddie had the right idea it was just way too ahead of its time.

Callison & Pepitone in the OF was a big upgrade.
Milt Pappas in the Rotation.
Hundley got hurt though which didn't help.
Billy had his best(?) season or close to it.
