worse than On-TV ?

ON TV was fine

SPORTSCHANNEL was the other Option on the ON TV box that Broadcast White Sox games for 5 years.

Meanwhile, The Cubs have Harry broadcasting Free games on TV for every kid in America to see the 7th,8th and 9th in Chicago. Making the Cubs a favorite team of millions across the country while the the Sox had nothing going on.

The ironic part of the whole thing is that Einhorn made his mark int eh TV industry with TBS which basically followed the WGN model.

ON TV was before Sportsvision, so when Sportsvision came out, you needed a new box with another channel.

And that screen shot was about the best you could have hoped for. most times it was much worse.

Letting Omar Asik walk

i like Asik a lot, but not sure about this one being so awful

I think it was awful because he was young, productive, and afforded the front office a lot of flexibility if they wanted to make a move using him or Noah. At the very least they could have predicted they'd be priced out of re-signing him, and figured out how to get something in return for him rather than letting him walk for nothing.

The only players who should walk away from your team without getting anything in return are has-beens or benchwarmers/scrubs. Asik wasn't any of these things.

I don't think GarPax believed Houston (or anyone else) would throw that type of money at him, considering that in Chicago he showed no ability to score around the basket unless he was dunking. It was a bad assumption on their part though. Somehow he got to Houston and developed an offensive touch out of nowhere.

I don't know if 25 million over three years is too much for a guy like Asik. We all know his strength is defense, rebounding, and other intangibles. Any sort of scoring that he does is merely icing on the cake. He was one of the most valuable players in the 2011 series against the Heat, particularly for the way he defended the basket against penetration without being called for fouls. His name was made during that series, and if I'm Chicago, I either anticipate a team like Houston signing him to a deal that I cannot match, or I preempt the move by thinking creatively. They did neither, and a perfectly capable, young seven footer walked out the door for nothing in return.

i don't think it was so much that he mysteriously developed an offensive game out of nowhere, moreso that he just got more minutes and more opportunities, plus his free throw shooting improved a little bit...no Mark Price but did improve
plus, still remember he averaged 10ppg last year, that's not exactly Lebron and Durant territory there.

Yes, but his value isn't in scoring. It's defense and rebounding, and he does those things quite well.

i agree....i was responding to a point made by someone else (think OKC, the quotes got messed up i didn't say the bolded part)
i was just saying i don't really agree that he developed an offensive game out of nowhere

No one would in their right mind would actively choose to be a Sox or Cubs fan.

2003-2007 seemed like an excellent time to join the Cubs bandwagon. Perhaps the same is true between 2005-2008 for the Sox.

Ah the lack of perspective of the youth

The better move would have been to Denver, or before that Milwaukee.

Learn your history :P
