If you want to dbag him for possibly being absentee in this kid's life, I think I'd agree. He has had it rough though.

I just feel differently. Playing a game after losing a child to violence is worse IMO than being an absentee father. It screams selfishness.

its how he dealt with his brother's death, I think. That's 20 years of greiving thru sports. He's not going to play after a child he doesn't know dies?

Some drink, some eat, some cry, he play sports.

A sibling or parent is entirely different than a child's passing. In the early morning hours I've worried about a sick parent, stayed up for an ill parent, but I doubt I'd even consider sleeping behind my son's passing.

Let him do what he wants. No one knows what he knew about this kid. In any case he knows about this tragedy and understands it truer and deeper than any of us can possibly comprehend. Whatever he choses to do will be the right choice for him. No one else is in a position to judge, no matter what the circumstance.

Is the kid gonna end up more dead? Does the guy walk on the future legal charges because of it? Is there some implication on the kid's eternal soul that I'm not aware of? Does not playing somehow have enough (false) piety to mystically rewrite history?

I don't even know where to begin pretending to think there's something at all to your point. At least RR has his amateur shrink hat on when discussing the merits - or (arguably) lack thereof in playing - but this? Just dogshit-in-the-cornflakes bad and to what end I have no earthly idea and am rather thankful that I don't.

That's what we do here just about 24/7. We judge everything. Why is this different? It is my belief that just about every parent in the world would be an emotional wreck over losing a child and wouldn't be able to eat or speak let alone go to practice immediately and play in a game. Apparently most of you all believe this is perfectly fine normal behavior. That's fine. My opinion is unfazed by it.

I said to myself that this would be a thread (and controversy) today before I signed on. There is no way I could do it,but it's a tough call to judge someone dealing with a tragedy. I'm wondering if anyone from the Vikings gave him advice.

We've judged many people based on their response or lack there of to tragedies before. We've judged the mother for having an abusive boyfriend. Why is AP off limits? Do you believe it's a normal response to go back to work while your child is clinging for their life? Do you believe it is normal to have the desire to play in a game less than 48 hours after the death of a young child? His reaction to this bothers me because I naturally imagine what my reaction would be if I were in a similar situation.

I don't think there is a "normal reaction" to something like this. Sometimes the shock of it leads people to try and act as if everything is still normal. Sometimes a person feels they have to keep busy to keep from going crazy. And sometimes people literally can't get out of bed.

None of the reactions are wrong.

It's just how the person deals.

So the next time we see a mother of a dead or missing child (Casey Anthony) not showing any emotion we will say it's normal and not judge? When the next president doesn't react immediately after hearing America is under attack we won't judge his response? We also won't judge the response of a husband after wife #13 dies or is missing?
