Yeah, there's a certain amount of "cowardly heel" that one needs in order to pull that off. I don't think Trips is believable as the cowardly heel.

Here's the brief backstory:

During that time, Triple H was booked to win every feud, even when conventional booking logic called for the babyface to get revenge on him. Booker T had all the momentum and crowd support in his favor going into the Wrestlemania 19 feud with Triple H - a feud that saw Triple H make some not-so-veiled racist comments about Booker in the lead-up. We get to WrestleMania and at the end of the match, Trips hits the Pedigree, buries him by waiting nearly 30 seconds before going for the pin, wins cleanly, and promptly sends Booker back to the midcard for four years.
