It seems like Dan Bernstein can't win with people. Would you prefer he verbally abuses a member of the Bears when they built a whole segment around Martellus bringing his unique sense of humor?

Why can't he just talk to him like he's an equal human being, the way you and I talk to each other?

If I wanted someone who acts like a normal human being I'd listen to ESPN 1000. I listen to the Score for the roster filled with abnormal people.

I really enjoy it.

I don't understand the criticism here. Bennett is just playing a bit and doesn't take things too seriously.

It's sports radio. This isn't the United Nations or a courthouse. You can just enjoy something at face value.

The bit sounds forced. He sounds like he's trying too hard to be wacky and zany. To me, he's the equivalent of one of the girls on facebook who post, "Like, OMG, I'm so random!!! LOL."

Like I said, Bennett is mildly amusing. He's set a certain bar with his Twitter feed. He's not clever and funny like a Brandon McCarthy, John Axford, or Brett Anderson, but for a football player he's a laugh riot. He's trying to live up to expectations on B&b, so of course, it's forced.

But the problem isn't Bennett. He's just doing his best to give people what they want and be entertaining. It's bernstein's approach to him, as if he's a horse that counts or a bear that boxes that's a little off-putting. Look at that Big Black Stud! He's funny!

The main problem is that I think of Martellus as having a unique sense of humor in the same way that I think of Laurence as being a tough guy and a ladies man. The more they try and sell it as being a thing, the more apparent it becomes that it's not.

To paraphrase Samuel Johnson, a football player that makes jokes is a remarkable football player, not a remarkable comedian.

Yea, I see your point. B&B should do a better job of directing the interview. I've never been able to listen to a full "Martellus Show" because a lot of the shit he says is just nonsense. Like, I have no clue what the fuck he is talking about. I believe it was his introductory press conference where he sounded like a very interesting guy. He said a reason he chose Chicago was for its museums, art scene and such. Talking about such subjects should be right up Bernstein's alley given the cultured highfalutin character he plays 2 - 6. As much as they don't want to talk football because they're the wacky "different" show they should talk football for half the show.

Bernstein has different tones of voice for different races of people.

I cant believe there are those who used to question his prejudice.

I don't know about that anymore. It seems like Dan is happy to talk about football now that he thinks he can intellectualize it. How I miss those halcyon days of "you block and tackle, it's not that complicated."

A couple conversations with Matt Bowen and you start believing football is more complex than knee surgery.

True, and talking football with a tight end probably doesn't work as well with a quarterback. I'm guessing it takes too much effort and time to pick 3-5 plays in a game and ask Martellus what he saw, why it happened, what were his feelings etc. Much easier to let Martellus riff and say goofy shit.

Wasn't Jurko voted "Funniest Man in the NFL" at one point? I guess that speaks to your point, because Jurko is not funny. Have you heard his latest commercial for John Cicco's Menswear? It almost makes you miss the Cicco Chicks. He asks a salesman if they have any linen pants, but he pronounces "linen" as "ly-nen."

Because he's a big, dumb, football player! Get it? HAHAHAHA!

On top of that, his delivery, timing, and overall dumb guy act are terrible. He's like Mike Golic for people who find the comedy stylings of Mike and Mike too cerebral.

Talking football for half the show is a guaranteed dumpster fire. It inevitably descends into Dan condescending to us like he's fucking Bill Walsh, despite the obvious fact that his knowledge consists of three parts jargon, two parts cliche, and a dash of laboriously veiled Bears homerism.

I listened to MJH quite a bit and never thought he added much to the show. I thought he was funny when he was busting Harry's balls, but that's mainly because I dislike Harry so much. I've tried listening to Carmen and Jurko -- can't do it.
