There's story lines that don't need to be related in Blaming Bartman.

Would Alou have made that very good (not incredible) catch if a dork from central casting wasn't grabbing at the ball:
Look at the replay of course there was a very good possibility that ball was going right in his mit.

Assuming Alou catches the ball would he have held onto it:
Probabaly but there's a small chance he loses it in the process of crashing into the wall and / or ground.

If you think Alou would have caught the ball if it weren't for a fan(s) not realizing their negative impact does that mean you blame them for the Cubs choke:
No BUT it started an event that most likely would not have happened but for them - STILL NOT a fans fault.

Example.
Your wife is killed in a car accident when someone else ran a red light.
It's the 100% the fault of the person that ran the red light but if another event just before that didn't take place there would have been no accident:
- If the car holding up traffic in the turn lane had turned when there was a proper opening you wouldn't have been in the lane to get hit.
You might always think - Wow I wish that guy would have turned when he had the chance but MOST rational people wouldn't blame him.

I wish Bartman wouldn't have stuck his arms out and the Cubs probably would have gone on to win but I don't blame him for Alex Gonzalez running the red light.

I hope those Tigers are able to overcome the impossible situation of fan interference to beat the Red Sox

Deep in the recesses of their consciousness Cub fans are actually comforted by the actions of that night. Their existence is built upon failure. Their worldview and the way they want to be viewed by society is entirely based in losing. They prefer their position of being the nail to the MLBs hammer as it places no demands on them: the blissful simpletons of the MLB world.

...and Bartman only accentuated this position. Pity us a decade later! We are cursed! We do not control our environment but are controlled.

Ozzie Guillen was only about 100' away from Bartman. Its all his fault.

Riggghtttt and the only fanbase worse than the one built on failure would be the one built on having an Inferiority Complex of a fanbase built on failure.

The 2003 Cubs were a real good team, but they werent good enough to overcome what should have been a minor hiccup

Alou, Prior, Gonzalez and Baker all failed in some way.

JORR,
A special I saw removed all the fans hands with computer trickery. It showed the ball heading right into the glove.

Was this the ESPN special, "Catching Hell"? If it was, the results were truly inconclusive. Also, Bartman's hand wasn't really the one that got in the way...it was the guy they interviewed that was a row behind him. Also, he is the guy you see talking to security and blocking Bartman from the camera briefly on the video.

Bartman didn't do anything any other reasonable fan wouldn't have done. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He's a patsy for a fandom lacking a championship for so long, they still believe they're cursed by a fucking goat. Also, Boston and the White Sox winning the next 2 series really didn't help their desperation.

Time to put away the pitchforks on this one. If there's truly a scapegoat, it is Dusty Baker who didn't walk out there (or send his minion, Larry Rothschild) to calm down his prima donna pitcher (who had already thrown too many pitches and was completely gassed).

Its the same as idiot Red Sox fans blaming Buckner for losing game 6. There was a ton of other blame to share starting with Schiraldi who couldnt get one more fucking out with a 3 run lead. Also there was a Game 7 too in which the Red Sox led 3 -0 going into the 6th and ended up letting get away too. Buckner was a very minor player in all that, just like Bartman.

After he returned the opening pitch for a touchdown too. He just couldn't keep up his streak of 3 pointers made that he started in Atlanta in game 2 to close out the sweep.

I've let it go. But, since you brought this up, I don't agree with this and never have.

He's in the front row. He ought be aware of his ability to reach into the field of play and every Cub fan in the world was counting down outs at that point. I don't think every fan would have done that. That goes for the other yokels around him as well. They all should have had more awareness.

The White Sox should put up a Bartman statue outside the stadium.

Expecting Cubs fans to have awareness is like expected Sox fans to have humility.

Whatever. I just don't agree with the "anybody would have done it". Cubs should have still won the series.

Bartman was point A: Alou catches ball, out #2

Cubs SS bobbles double play grounder is point B: He isn't rushing because it's just a routine throw to first if Point A never happened.

That is the way I always looked at it. Of course on here that makes me Lee Harvey Oswald.

The important thing is we've locked up a gold glove shortstop with no concentration issues to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Surprised to see he (Castro) did seem to improve as the season progressed. When he made that mental error,he was in the middle of a good run.

This would make me a Sox Fan  All time troll move.

Pasta's thoughts are horrendous.

Bartman and the 15 other people trying to catch that ball should have had more awareness. Had I been sitting there, counting outs, cold sweats etc, I can't promise I wouldn't have got caught in the moment and done the same thing.

Bitch ass Alou is what really did it. If he just walks back to his spot in left I truly believe the Cubs win the game.

He ruined my life! I lost a piece of myself after that series defeat. What about me and other Cubs fans? Sure the White Sox winning a couple years later made me feel a little better but a piece of me is still gone.

8 years ago tonite, Freddy Garcia chucked a complete game and Konerko homered for the second straight game to put the Sox up 3-1 in the ALCS 8)

Love your suit Pasta but this is just a bad thought. Alou wasnt going to make the catch for sure, he probably wasnt going to even if Bartman boxed out the entire section and gave him a clear run at it. Even so, Bartman is a SPECTATOR. The onus should be on the waste of space Gonzalez. He is the reason shit blew up that inning. The heirarchy of blame for that implosion is

1:Gonzalez-- Stupid fucking jackass
2:Alou-- Shouldn't have flipped his shit
3:Dusty--After Alou had flipped his shit he shoudl have went out to the mound and brought the infield in and gave them a little breather to calm down and reassure them that everything was supercool.

Dont forget Prior. He was pointing and freaking out too and he was supposed to be the robot who wouldnt be affected by such things. (Even though he DID throw what should have been an inning ending dp)

I agree with Dusty calming them or should have rather. Remind me though did he already go out once that inning? If so, he could not have gone out without changing the pitcher.

After he threw a wild pitch and gave up an RBI single on an 0-2 count. Prior deserves to take some blame too, as you stated.

I was going to include him but he freaked out and then calmed down enough to end the inning on an easy routine play. Gonzalez is just a dirty rotten cocksucker. I wish lots of bad things on him. Nothing serious, I just hope he has lots of little issues. Always stepping in dog shit or gum, pimples on the inside of his nose, bad hemorrhoids etc.
