I'm bad with names. Even people I've known since I was a kid I forget. One of the greatest gifts God gave me was the ability to retain a high level of information and usually the first time I hear or see it. That's what makes it so weird. I see people all the time that speak to me and hug me in public and call me by my name and I have to find some way to bullshit my way through that encounter. I recognize the faces most of the time and usually know where I know them from but I have no clue what their names are. My kids have picked up on the fact that I don't know names even though I try my best to hide that. "Daddy you don't know who that is do you?" NO! What's the problem?

Yes! For some odd reason they look so happy to see me when they are doing it. That's what makes me feel bad. I've only had 1 who said "you don't know who I am do you" and I was honest.

I'm really bad when I need to know their name. It seems like when I don't need to know it, I remember, but when I need to ask them something it's like "Hey... uh... hey, you... um..."

Depending on who and where I'll just put my hand on their shoulder and ask the question. I almost never ask them to repeat their name.

I would never do that. There are ways around not remembering a name and I use them but it still bothers me that I even forget the names of people I grew up with and saw practically everyday for more than half my life.

The best trick is to associate the name with a persons attributes.
