Well that one Deadspin writer just said Chicago pizza was the best regional foodstuff so nyah-nyah-nyah.

I feel legitimately sorry for anyone who feels that way about New York pizza. There's a void in that man's life.

He's also completely wrong about Pennsylvania. There's not a single person outside of greater Philadelphia who's ever eaten scrapple.

As a New Yorker, St. Louis sucks. As a Chicagoan, St. Louis sucks.

Dan is your typical"I need to try and assert that I am better than you" in order to feel good about himself. And he approaches almost every situation in life and sports with this attitude.

What an incredibly sad and painful way to live your life.

New York doesn't have the same level of "must visit" attractions as London, Paris, or a very few other cities in the world do either.

What attractions are "must visit" that people travel from around the globe to see in New York? New York is just either the start or end of an international tourist's trip to the US. I'm struggling for 3-4 "must visit" attractions in New York for people around the world: Statue of Liberty? Hmmmm....maybe Times Square? Maybe?
Yes, they do. Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square for sure. Then, you add in World Trade Center, Central Park, Wall Street, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center/Radio City Music Hall, and Broadway and you can make whatever grouping you want to compare with any city in the world. If that isn't enough, you can add in Grand Central Station, Madison Square Garden(note: I was not impressed), a bunch of museums, the comedy club capital of the world. You can't honestly believe that NYC fails to have 3-4 "must visit" attractions. I'd find it hard to plan a trip to NYC for someone and not come up with more than 4 things they definitely need to do.

I guess my point is, cities aren't defined as "world class" because of a small collection of attractions. If so, I submit the greater Orlando/Kissimmee area. Cities get defined as WC based more on GD's definition. If we are basing "world class" on attractions that are must see - there are 5-6 cities in Italy alone that would be more world class than NY.
Are you arguing that New York City isn't a "world class" city.

Keep in mind that I'm not even saying Chicago isn't a world class city. I'm just saying it lacks some of the things that would make it easier. Chicago is actually attempting to add in those things as you can see in the Millennium Park area which is probably the #1 thing for tourists to do.

I don't know anybody that goes to NYC specifically to see Brooklyn Bridge or Wall Street. Not saying people don't do that, but you were talking about international tourists - do people really come from Europe to see a bridge? Of course not.

Chicago has the equivalent to MSG (Wrigley) and Central Park (2 of them) and Empire State Building (Sears tower). Besides, you didn't even list the #1 tourist attraction in Chicago (and it's not even close, I believe).

Well, not specifically for that. No one goes to any city just to see one thing. However, it's a massive tourist destination and filled with people virtually all the time. Also, may I point out the Golden Gate Bridge and London Bridge as other bridges that are tourist destinations. I'm starting to get the feeling that you've never been to NYC. Visiting the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the more popular things to do. Wall Street is very popular too along with a visit to the WTC.

MSG is way low on the list of things to visit in NYC. Chicago has nothing close to Central Park. The Empire State Building is better than the Sears Tower.

Again, I've been to both extensively, and I love Chicago more than I love NYC, but in terms of attractions it isn't even close and just about anyone who has been to both would acknowledge that.

No.

Just a reference to an old post made about Schaumburg being culturally superior to Chicago

BR, have you gone to prospect park in brooklyn? i think it's just as nice to visit as central park and isn't as cluttered. very pretty. just like chicago, the best places to visit aren't the tourist traps. but NYC beats chicago by a mile with their public transportation system.

that isn't true. a friend of mine is from outside of chester county, and west chester, etc...and had scrapple. pennsylvania is like...5 states in one. like NY. most of the rural areas are pretty scary...like, the drive from kennett square back home was something out of "texas chainsaw massacre". loaded with "get off mahland" homes.

This post kind of proves the point of the insecurity some people have about Chicago. Look, it's a great town, but it ain't New York. Chicago can have 5,000 parks and not a one of them, or all of them together, will equal Central Park. And Willis Tower can't begin to compare to the views from the iconic Empire State Building. Tourists...Yankee game or Cubs game? Not even close.

Have you ever been to NYC?

No. We've been close in Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights but we haven't gone there. It looks cool though. Thanks.

I always hear about this provincialism. I might agree but do you think the Joe Orr Road of New York City is any different than you? I spent a few years with New Yorkers and heard far too many conversations about New York supremacy. They do they same thing so I have to disagree with your assessment...and I'm not one that disagrees with its supremacy.
