Gasland and Gasland 2

I think every American should watch this documentary! This guy did an amazing job and this is a great example of something the US Government is trying to shut the people up about! One of the worst things ever in this country!

I do know this, when I pour a foundation on a house the odds of a crack are about 1:1! The difference is that we find the crack and repair it in about 6 feet of concrete. we have months of curing before the drywall is put up to find it.

These guys drill down hundreds of feet and then just pour concrete around the drill shaft to create a "secure wall" to stop the nat gas they drill for from getting into the water table and water supply.

I think they even admit that within 50 years every single drill sit will have at least one crack and will leak at some time and they arent going to fix them

Thus you get this in your sink!!!!!!

Are these anti-fracking films? Anything that Yoko Ono, Mark Ruffalo and Matt Damon all agree to oppose can't be all bad.

yes, anti fracking.

Of course you will have something bad come from any drilling, but these guys are going to drill everywhere they can.

I hear you, BigFan, but you can get flaming water via methane whether there is drilling in the area or not. The tell is if there are any residual deposits left from the chemicals used to frack.

I am aware that you could get natural methane in any well water you drill. The issue is that the mass number of drilling sites is releasing the methane into the water sources at a rate almost 10 times what naturally occurs.

So areas that would not have had methane now have it and if you look at the plans the gas companies have to drill it's 1000's more wells.

The issue is the land in which the drilling is done is that of poor white folks living in the country that dont have the money or time to fight it. Then the gas company offers you a huge check to move and you just move. I dont blame anyone for doing so, they have a life and they dont get paid to fight for what is right. THATS WHAT POLITICIANS ARE FOR!

What is amazing is that Obama keeps denying the Keystone pipeline on safety issues, but he is 100% behind the fracking? Obama Inc. can spin it anyway they want, the fact is big money won and the little guy lost. Thats it.

The only people that really fight fracking are those who have infected lands and water. Those who live next to a drill site. Etc. That is a small minority of the public. Those people got screwed.

Not even getting into the higher frequency of earthquakes at this point because that issue is just starting.

Of course the Nat Gas companies are the darlings of Wall Street right now, so look for this issue to become bigger and worse as these guys need to keep producing at a VERY high level to run that stock up!

So people won't be able to drink the ground water in places like the Dakotas and (going by their map) rural Michigan post-fracking, places almost no one sane lives in currently? North Dakota doesn't need people and Michigan has the largest supply of fresh water on the planet surrounding it; they can just pipe or truck or train in potable drinking water from the Great Lakes (as Chicago currently does). Image

The increase in earthquakes is a concern. Riding back from Ohare with a friend from California and it was her first time in Chicago and as we rode the Blue line through Bucktown and Wicker Park she commented on all the brick and mortar buildings and how they would collapse like jenga stacks during any decent sized earthquake. Guess it would depend on time of day the quake struck Chicago, btw 9-5 M-F most people would be in far safer reinforced concrete structures.

Meet me at a bar in Williston and I'll buy you a Scotch and methane.

Williston, is that near St Charles? I get lost west of Harlem Ave.

Williston would be interesting to visit. I imagine it would be sorta like visting an old west mining town or BigFan's Alaska gold operation, without all the censorship of the latter.

Both Gasland and Gasland 2: Port of Call, Williston are freely available on the various torrent sites, Downloading both today. Hope they have footage from Williston and the fracking front-lines and it's not just hillbillies sniffing glasses of tap water; even though natural methane is odorless, I'm guessing they sniff their tap water anyhow.

'Sniff this, Laura-Jean, does it smell safe to you?'

Can view it on HBO TO GO.

Its a natural resource that should be tapped, but it sure seems like the rate at which it is happening is going to get out of control in a hurry.

and if you look at EVERY Stock Guru, almost all of them have some choice of Nat Gas company in their selected stocks to make money in 2014.

With that said, the money is going to get so big, it wont be stopped and will become ravenous.

Domestically the price (3 or 4$) (demand) for natural gas makes fracking barely worth it. Euros and Asian countries besides Russia pay 4 or 5x's that for natural gas TO Russia and are begging us to sell them natural gas. President Obama recently approved 3 new LNG (liquified natural gas) export terminals, bringing the total to 4 that he's approved thus far in his 2 terms.

yeah, natural gas is a good bet in 2014 and beyond, once the exports start flowing. The domestic price for natural gas will go up while the international price comes down out of the Russian controlled stratosphere. Seems the Canadians are already jumping into the LNG export market and cleaning up financially.

Stock wise, it is a great bet.

I really dont want to sound like a treehugger, but there is some really bad stuff on the horizon with this stuff. Has realistic potential of getting out of control in a hurry.

Some swear all of this is bullshit. I'm too lazy to look up their counterargument.

There was an extensive study by MIT that found that "most" of the active/inactive wells they looked at were safe concerning leakage into the water table etc.

There was another study that took a look at active/inactive wells and found that they did leave behind traces/remnants of fracking specific chemicals.

i just wonder what the world would be like if we invested 100% of the money that goes into oil into solar and wind power instead.

I wonder what it would be like if we actually tried to fix our infrastructure.

This is what Terry would say in the old country is "A problem"
