Its a win because 16.68 million viewers is a lot more than 12.31 million viewers.

Football is clearly winning the war, nobody is denying that. Baseball just happened to win this battle, and I say good for baseball!

They didn't win though. When they were head to head, tootball had more viewers. There were just more viewers in the beginning because football wasn't on.

Not true. Please stop stating it as a fact.

It is a fact. Check the 9 o clock hour.

You could also factor in NBC Sunday Night Football (pregame) and probably suggest football beat baseball the entire night. I'm not positive about that, and don't believe that to be a fact, though. Please don't harm me.

Now that you are obviously wrong, will you admit it? I'm sure Rick will, although with a long sermon on why he wasn't really wrong.

Remember when the NFL used to skip the Sunday night game out of deference to the World Series? How quaint, but the time for quaintness is over. Protect The Shield.

Yea, those numbers are different. I don't pretend to understand why the ratings are different than those in the article. How would the ratings differ if you factored in the NBC pre-game? Or the end of the Fox afternoon games?

But let's be honest, a CHAMPIONSHIP baseball game eeked out a win over a boring, regular season blowout. Suck it baseball!

Average Viewers over the stated time periods:

NFL: 14.4 million

MLB: 15.4 million

What have we learned: only assholes argue about ratings as though they mean something.

You are correct. Baseball had a narrow victory. It certainly wasn't 4 million different. It looks like it was about 500k different.

I would think if there was a more competitive game on last night that the NFL ratings would be higher.

Every once in a great while I have to agree with something frank has posted and this is one of those rare times. The Packers/Vikings game looked to be a lopsided affair, while the Red Sox/ Cardinals match-up is a really good one. Had it been Seahawks/Chiefs or even the Lions/Cowboys game, the ratings would have been different. Baseball is my favorite sport, but I am a realist and I know the ratings are not just a reflection of pure interest in those 2 sports.

Absolutely correct. The ratings are only a reflection on popularity when more people are watching football.

I think in order to get an accurate reading on interest, you take all the games, regular season and post-season and come away with the averages for each sport and those numbers tend to tell an accurate tale. I would much rather watch a World Series game than ANY NFL regular season game, but I think I would be the exception to the rule. I think the majority of the viewing public would rather watch a good NFL match-up during the regular season than even a World Series game. Compare Super Bowl numbers vs a World series contest and the numbers are ridiculously one sided.

And I don't think you should compare a sport designed to be watched live on a beautiful summer night with a TV show in the middle of winter.

This thread was supposed to be a celebration of righteousness and America

REAL TALK: Obviously football is king when it comes to ratings. I looked up the ratings expecting another embarrassment for MLB and was surprised. I guess having teams with large followings helps.

It's ahead of all sports in America. That's why more people watched two decent World Series teams instead of tuning into to see the greatest running back and the greatest quarterback in history. God bless the USA!

The fact that a crappy midwest focused football game lost by a million viewers to a world series game with an east coast team shows just how much more popular football really is.

A battle of the most recent NFL MVPs couldn't compete with Kolten Wong and Will Middlebrooks

Idc because I don't watch much football anymore, but a gb/mn game was barely beaten by 2 large market teams in a championship game. Baseball is dwindling and it's not able to attract a large young fan base.

Edit: darkside made my point.

Not really. It shows how many fantasy games were hinging on two superstars. Did Peterson or Rodgers get the Lakemoor Louts home last night?

St. Louis is a large market? Then why can't they draw more than 25,000 to a game of America's most popular sport?
