I'm not so sure about that. Appearing on Love Cruise is pretty stupid.

You're on a roll with being objectively wrong.

MMA relies much more on technique and nuance, style and strategy. Boxing is mostly a matter of brute force. This isn't really a matter of opinion. Ask any boxing/MMA fan. It's why a guy like Anderson Silva would destroy either Klitschko brother if they fought on the street.

Agree to disagree on Hester. He's a pretty dumb guy. A lot of athletes are. I certainly never think of baseball players as bright guys. I think you might be the only one who does.

MLB catchers are usually pretty bright. I'd argue that AJ Pierzynski is smarter than any non-quarterback currently in the NFL.

And even though he's a major tool I would argue Chris Kluwe is much brighter than him. But really it's a silly statement to make since neither you of I have the slightest clue now smart the vast majority of NFL players are.

Of course it's a matter of opinion and bad opinion at that.

I meant compared to MMA. But you knew that and that's why you decided to quote it out of context.

Just like neither you or I have the slightest clue as to how smart the vast majority of MLB players are.

Quick, name a Toby Keith song that doesn't have the words "red, white and blue" in it.

Glad you're starting to see it my way. Arguing one sport has smarter players than another is a meaningless fucking argument, even for this place. That's pretty much all I was pointing out.

The funny thing about this thread is that people think Devin Hester is dumb. Why do people think Devin Hester is dumb? It's because he was unable to get a firm grasp on the complexities of modern NFL offense!

I bet Devin Hester could manage the White Sox though.

But how is the complexity in a pitcher-batter matchup any different than a QB having to decipher a defense's pre-snap coverage, correctly determine if the defense is disguising specific coverages that would undermine the play-call, anticipate if there are any blitzes coming, and from where, adjust the play-call accordingly, and then execute once the ball is snapped? That sort of diagnosis is pretty much routine across the league for every QB.

I never really said one sport had smarter players than the other. All professional sports have smart guys and idiots in the same locker rooms.

I do think its wrong and rather silly to say that baseball has no strategy. Or that boxing, football, MMA, basketball, tennis, bowling, golf, running marathons, biking, NASCAR, or 99.9% of all other sports employ no strategy. That's just an ignorant and wrong thing to say.

I think people judge Hester on his inability to speak clearly

No, it's because he was unable to remember which side of the line he was supposed to be on. It would be like a batter walking into the box and facing the catcher.

Makes sense. That isn't ever a problem for baseball players.

How complex could an NFL playbook be when there have been All-Pros who admittedly couldn't read?

Agreed Frank. We're on the same page. Feels great, right?

NBA is king though

They'd probably do even better in MLB which doesn't even have playbooks!

Apparently you haven't heard of The Cubs Way.

I've never seen an NFL playbook but from what I understand the plays are not written out. The coaches diagram the plays instead of write out what each player must accomplish.

That's a pretty poor rationale to put Hester down though while trying to say that a game can't be complex if Hester can excel at it. The White Sox had a manager who didn't speak clearly.

Im not saying anything beyond the fact that the public perception of Hester's intelligence was built on his speech.

The problem comes in when you combine it with JORR's thoughts. Football isn't complex because Hester can do it well. If so, and Hester is considered dumb because he can't speak well, then Ozzie proves baseball is even less complex.

Hester can't speak in one language. Ozzie can't speak in two languages. Does that make Ozzie smarter or dumber than Hester?

Ozzie parlayed two World Series rings into unemployment in a span of ten years. There may be no one dumber than Ozzie in all of sports. Maybe Curt Shilling is dumber.
