All across the country,these stations are prime targets for getting robbed.
What's the point of staying open? To sell cigarettes & cupcakes? People making 12 bucks an hour putting their lives on the line. Gas stations should remain open for GAS without allowing store entrance past dark.

clerk at an Arlington Heights gas station was held up at gunpoint Halloween night but was uninjured, police said.

According to Arlington Heights Police Commander Mike Hernandez, a man entered the Shell gas station at 3 W. Algonquin Road at 9:09 p.m., walked behind the counter and showed a black handgun, instructing the clerk to open the register.

The man ordered the clerk to the ground before going through several register drawers and removing some cash, Hernandez said. Police would not disclose how much money was stolen.

The robber also took several packs of cigarettes before running out of the station and then heading south along Algonquin Road, according to Hernandez.

Hernandez said Friday morning that police lost the offender’s trail in a parking lot in an office building in the 2300 block of South Arlington Heights Road.

“We don’t have anybody in custody,” Hernandez said.

He said the clerk was working by himself and there were no customers inside the gas station at the time. The gas station is open for business today, Hernandez said.

The robber was described by police as being black, approximately six feet to six feet two inches tall, having a thin build and being approximately 45 years old. The man reportedly wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black-and-white gym shoes with a Nike emblem, Hernandez said.

The hood was positioned to obscure the offender’s face, police said.

“It’s an active investigation at this point,” Hernandez said.

Police are still investigating.

I would not want my friend/relative running a business like that once it gets dark. You need a bag of chips,let the clerk send it through a bullet proof glass slot.

I thought that the food and cigs inside were the only real money makers for a gas station. YOu close those and you are probably hitting the bricks soon.

I don't think they make a lot on cigs. I know for a fact they don't make a lot on gas. I've had more than one station owner tell me that they have to sell 8-10 gallons of gas to make $1 in profit.
