This Amtrak radio spot about how flying is so stressful, so why not relax on a train, have dinner, read a book, or take a nap. Well, as somewhat of an Amtrak veteran, it's mildly stressful when you get sidetracked 80 miles out of St. Louis for about 45 minutes, waiting for a freight train to come that never comes, and then having to crawl back into Chicago only to find that you missed your Metra back home and have to sit around for almost two hours until the next one comes. Amtrak can smile and blow me.

As I post this, "Float On" comes on the radio. Appropriate. Commercials are maddening, passenger rail is maddening, but yeah, we'll all float on, okay.

Couldn't agree with you more. St. Louis to my place in Schaumburg should have taken five hours. I decided to take the Amtrak to see my GF at the time. It took exactly ten hours in leaving St. Louis to get to my Schaumburg apartment. Last time I took the train.

The only way to take Amtrak from Pitt-Chi is an afterthought on the route from Was-Chi. Get up and get on train at like 4 in the morning and get there a day and a half later. I'll drive.

Holy shit! This thread is getting results!

So, I was listening yesterday afternoon, and I was well out of button-punch range, and the commercial starts up "meet Rachel, mother of three." My black, black heart trebled in size, anticipating the inevitable "working mother of three," and it came -BUT!- the voice was changed! They have the same commercial, with, I think, all the same lines, but they ditched the annoying bitch playing the "Rachel" part for a much less annoying bitch.

Evidently, negative feedback was so overwhelming, that Comcast felt the need to re-cut the commercial with a different actress.

Fuck yeah. Hopefully this causes the old "Rachel" to be unable to find future work, and her life goes to hell, and she turns to drugs and contracts aids from an intravenous needle and dies friendless and destitute, and is buried by the state in a pauper's grave, where she's forgotten, and it's like she never existed.

I noticed this too... would be interesting to know what happened. Seems to be exact same copy...just a different woman (or maybe even the same woman, but heavily sedated!)

I would enjoy the Call JULIE ad immensely more if they read the line with a slight pause, as follows -

Call JULIE at least 2 days before.

You dig?

"If we could supply fresh waa taa this would be the perfect location for the new town"

Um, the middle of nowhere in the desert and you plan is to somehow tow in an iceberg?
That might be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What do you do with that tug once you get to shore and you're 400 miles from the desert? You gonna truck in an iceberg? Every couple days?

And you're advertising...what?

Has anyone tried a Velveeta Breakfast Biscuit? The name "Velveeta" brings to mind an unappetizing, gelatinous, cheese-like product and "breakfast biscuit" sounds like something you'd give to your dog that reduces tartar and promotes a shiny coat.

OK...after Googling that are actually belVita Breakfast Biscuits. I still think they sound like something you'd give to your dog.

The Outlander commercial for the accident avoidance. This goofy bitch is just cruising along the highway eyes fixed at 3 o'clock and the car saves her from killing some kids in a red convertible. Now, the goddamn car stopped itself about 3 full seconds before thiss dumb broad even TRIES to hit the brake. Then, car stopped, she goes for the brake pedal.
Wow

I kept wondering why Velvetta would be marketing a non-cheese related product. It seemed like shitty brand recognition. Now I realize I am just hard of hearing like Tad.

I cannot stand the stilted delivery of George's Gale Street Inn commercials.

Let's do lunch. We do dinner too but this is a lunch ad at the right time on the right station......

It sounds like he is doing Chicago's own John Mahoney to me. And it is odd.

Don't you have a Chicago accent, pittmike? You're straight outta Brighton Park or something, aren't you?

These Illinois Lottery radio commercials continue to annoy...it's like they are TRYING to make them bad. The latest one features a guy bouncing oddball ideas for new games to his boss, such as "zombie approxilypse." After several rejections, the boss says, "you're 0 for 9...very hit or miss" (which gives the guy the idea for the Hit or Miss game -- win if you hit, win if you miss...).

Aside from the general absurdity of the commercial, I'd say 0 for 9 is not hit or miss -- it's all miss!

How is the Gale Street, anyway? I have a soft spot for old-people restaurants run by cantankerous Greeks.

It's a very unpretentious place. There is a place in the world for ribs that "fall off the bone". The northwest side has plenty of old white ladies with no teeth. Seriously, I like that George knows who he is and knows who his customer is. In a time when authentic pit barbecue has not only made its way to Chicago's north side but has become ultra-fashionable, Gale Street just does what they've always done.

The last time I was there there was text on the menu discussing different styles of ribs in a "vive le difference" kind of way. It was one of my mom's favorite spots. I had her funeral luncheon there.

That's my theory on the longevity of Russell's Barbecue in Elmwood Park.

Moving slightly northwest, my grandpa's funeral meal was at the White Eagle in Niles. Can't properly mourn without unlimited pierogi.

Welp, that commercial for Fatass Warehouse or whatever is back. "I need pants in a 44 waist."

It's bad enough that this commercial is irritating, but beyond that, it's simply retarded. It doesn't make any sense. What is supposed to be happening? Is they guy trying to order pants at a drive-thru? Death is too good for the people responsible for this ad.

One day I want to meet MitC and watch some TV just to hear the constant stream of obscenities during the commercials. I would fast forward thru the show.

The chick yelling out "boots, shoes, jellies, etc." during the Illinois Lotto ad needs to be impregnated by a combine. Safe to say any Lotto-related ad is fucking awful.

That one is pretty obnoxious.

The TV spot for Lexus of Orland Park with Jim Cornelison bellowing is awful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QIPQj-i7I0
