He's saying Theo knew all along that Giraridi was not an option. So he counters Bernstein's report that they were "all in for Giraridi". In fact, if I remember at the time, Bernstein's exact words were "There is no plan B".

So we've got 2 different reports from the mentor and his student.

I think Theo is leaking out that he wanted Renteria all along to save his ass. Trying to convince people that Renteria was his #1. Drinky is falling for it. C'mon drink. You gotta be smarter than that.

Or you can take it to the "What the hell is wrong with drinky" thread. Your choice.

I just think horrible reporting deserves its own thread.

No, he can't and won't. Instead, he will start seven threads within the B&B section today alone.

Absolutely, bernstein said multiple times "there is no Plan B" with regard to Girardi. And he said it very slowly so you know he meant it. Why the fuck wasn't drinky chiming in with "dan, dan, dan, they've already decided. It's Renteria. Done deal. ? How the hell can li'l danny back away from this one?

Bernstein was wrong with what he was reporting about the Giraridi situation.

But for drinky to actually think that Joe Giraridi was not their number one choice is about as gullible as one can get. He certainly was. I believe drinky got this info. Theo is having his people put it out there. Of course he's gonna try to sell this bullshit.

Drinky, if you ever get a source that tells you the earth is flat, you shouldn't go on the air and report it. Just a friendly tip.

After Girardi signed with the Yanks, drinky took to twitter to say he knew it Girardi wasnt an option. I called him out on it right away and basically said if you knew this why wouldnt you say something to Bernstein on the air? Why wait till AFTER it was announced? Drinky did his usual "cant you read, youre an idiot shtick (very professional). Bernsy also said 2 people wanted Renteria (SD guys) and 1 didnt (theo) and drinky said hes known it was renteria since oct 10 (no facts). A different person said "well if they knew in october why not sign him then?" A fair question in which Drinky got all defensive on twitter saying "@MattAbbatacola: @cbendik79 bad excuse? he wasn't cleared to travel by his doctors... want the Cubs presser at Petco??

Just shut up drinky.

Just like Jason Goff with LeBron and Wade definitely coming to Chicago.....Maybe the producers should stick to something they are mediocre at like producing instead of you know trying to report things. But I guess when you learn from Terry and his Peep's voicemail about the Cutler trade that you feel you can get away with just making shit up with regards to Renteria.

The Cubs have a bunch of really good bloggers like Brett taylor, Harry Pavlidis, Sahadev sharma...drinky wouldnt stand a chance. I may be the only one but i wish 670 used Wayne Randazzo a lot more. He knows the most about baseball and has seen the Cubs prospects.

Here's how it probably works. Drinky doesn't get real scoops. Scoops that the teams don't want out. But when Chicago teams want to sell bullshit, they give it to everybody. Even guys like drink. Like this situation. Drinky got it. So did a lot of people probably. This is a story that makes the Cubs look good.

Drinky is the only dummy to actually report it as a fact.

Absolute horseshit.

You don't interview your "#1 guy" then let him sit for a month while you wait until after the World Series for Tory Lovullo. And save the due dilligence bullshit. I think they wanted Lovullo and the Red Sox told them to kiss their ass and Rich/Rick was plan B.

CYA.

As far as drinky discussing this with Bernstein, no way. He's scared cuz he knows Dan will totally discredit him. He would completely cut drinky down. Make him look like a fool. Which he is, by the way.

If drink is confident in his source/story, why wouldn't he discuss it on the Score's afternoon show? Pretty big story. Better than the other stupid stuff drink says on B&B. Hey, drinky finally has something interesting for once.

It is wrong, but dumb ass drink doesn't think so.

Has it been discussed? If not, let me know if it is. I won't be able to listen until after 4pm.

So I'm assuming drinky has been silent on this, right?

C'mon drinky, you have an hour and a half. Step on the battle field and confront Lord Bernstein. Sure, you'll lose. But it will at least show Chicago that you're not scared.

I'm highly skeptical that of Bernstein's sources as well. He states everything he claims to hear as fact, but he also leaves enough room that even if his reports don't happen, he can still claim to be correct. Both Bernstein and Boers both imply frequently that they can make a phone call to find out any inside information, but I don't often hear them reporting anything until it's been out there somewhere else. Even the Girardi story, which Bernstein was wrong about, was out there in some national reports before he started providing his own reports.

Drinky was around the team for home games for one season. I realize he knows some of the beat reporters from that experience, but I really believe that these guys just report things they say or hear on twitter/internet and pass them off as sources. I really have a hard time believing that Dan Bernstein has some impeccable sources that are never wrong on any given situation that he expresses an interest in finding out more about.

There's no doubt in my mind that Jason Goff was on RealGM/NBA Forums when the NBA free agency was happening and saw all the gossip/rumors about Wade coming to Chicago. He decided to take a shot. We remember when these guys are wrong on this board, but most casual listeners probably think these guys are experts, have sources, etc. because they are on the air.
