Any manager/coach needs to start off as a hardass, tough, etc and then lighten up. This doesnt mean yell and scream (AK Lovie), but if you come in as a buddy, you are screwed if things dont go well, because you have nowhere to go from there.

Agree he sounded unenthusiastic, but Its just hard to believe that Theo didnt call 20 sources about him, talk to him 10 times and make him take 5 tests!

I agree with you. I hope he is the right choice,too. It's just that some of his opening statements didn't impress me but like he said,we will see what goes on between the lines.

On this board,I supported Lovie up until last season when I thought it was time for a change. I liked Sveum and thought he got a bum's rush. I'm not always bitching!

Trestman sounded a weird dope during his press conference. He's doing pretty well.

Trestman is doing very well considering he has only one solid football unit. Special teams and defense not so good.

He will be fine. I like him as manager and he will have the players respect. He managed team Mexico and that is a hard nosed group of players and he had their respect. Nowhere does it say players have to fear you. They just have to respect you, want to play for you. I think he will be a good teacher and be able to communicate with all the players and have their trust. Swaimer was just a bouncer. He was not a teacher and I doubt any of the players actually felt like he personally cared if they were better or not.


Now......my 2 year long dream of acquiring Chase Headley may be even closer to happening. This guy is a real clubhouse leader and a good player. He is not the incognito type of veteran presence, he is the reggie white type of presence.

....and on top of getting Headley the Cubs can now work on getting Ryan Hannigan to be the backup catcher since the Reds are rumored to be done with him. He doesn't strike out, he puts the ball in play, he is a smart catcher and good game caller and he is solid defensively. Its all coming together!!!!
