What it does do is create opportunity to separate someone from their money and boy does it sound like a righteous way to do it!

Want to separate more money from people? OK! LETS DO IT!
Smoking in a car in a school zone? $250!
Smoking in a car "on school days when children are present" (Always loved that one, ambiguous enough to allow a child 400 yards away to get you a ticket)
So we should only have laws that fix 100% of the problem?

That seems to be the major objection. It isn't a perfect solution. What is?

We've tried banning things before and it doesn't stop anything. Your neighbor will just sell illegal cigarettes.

Then he should go to jail. We need to protect our children.

Are we saying that there shouldn't be any preventative measures taken by any government to protect kids? Sure none will be perfect but some things can help. IMO this is one of them. We feed kids at school and though we some go home their parents don't feed them. I'm sure the little food they get at school helps them live. I'm also sure not being trapped in a smoked filled car may also help.

Joe Orr Road Rod's Hypothetical Ten-Year Old Son, in the right hands, could be a mult to be reckoned with.

Are parents that smoke likely to also do so in the privacy of their own home? Sure. If they are stupid enough to smoke in a car their kids are in, they are certainly likely to do so in their homes. But since the 4th amendment assures unreasonable search of an individual's home, it's not possible to monitor what goes on there. But someone that smokes in full view of the public has relinquished any expectation of privacy.

Further, it has to be considered that in a smaller, enclosed environment, there is far greater damage done to an infant/child's lungs from 2nd hand smoke than that which might be done in a much larger area with greater ventilation.

Is it also a way for the government to make additional revenue? Sure, but it also has the effect of protecting the health of children, so it's a good idea that should have come along years earlier.

I'm not sure that's right though. I think we're wasting money feeding all kinds of kids who don't need it. Anyway, it's a fine line there telling someone how to raise a kid. It's not like smoking in a car is chaining the kid in the basement with no food. We can't provide what some politician's idea of the "perfect family" is for every child. Where does it end? It's like that baby that Ed and Anne Burke stole from his mother just because they had the power to do so. Does that kid have a better life? Undoubtedly. Is that the kind of society we want where only the well-to-do can raise children? I consider Ed Burke an arch criminal. Why should he be raising a child at all, let alone someone else's?

You're right. While this is something that I see as a positive there are probably a million other things I would have an issue with government telling parents they had to do with their kids. You've brought me over to your side.

Baby McNown: Chas do you ever bother to actually do research when you post things? Or just go ahead and post them as truth when you read them on some right wing softcore website. I'm asking that as a serious question.

chaspoppcap: I post what I read. Oh you mean websites like this?:[url]http://thecommonsenseshow.com/2012/10/04/why-we-should-cair-about-hott-bitches/[url]
You want me to list the books I have read on the subject, got no problem with that. All you have to do is look up Smoking Hott Bitches in the USA. There are 20 States trying to pass anti-Smoking HOtt Bitches laws on the books. One so far has been passed(OAK) and working its way through the process of going to the Supreme Court of the USA.

BM: I will ask you this, Have you done any research besides quick Google searches? What is your response to my post of a few hours ago about Pope Francis calling for peace and unity with those of the Hott Bitch persuasion yet there was not one major Wett Slutt who responded in a likewise manner.

cpc: Said several times that I like this pope, and Smoking Hott Bitches. It doesn't matter if any Wett Slutt says something good. You will find a way to rip them anyways.

BM: So why don't you instead of posting your Swank wanna be periodicals, link us to the direct legislation that was put on the ballot in Detroit that was trying to institute Smoking Hott Bitches law.

BM: Or don't you have any that a quick Google search prove is bullshit? (I'm gonna go with this one)

cpc: ll give you an example. The wearing of the Thong. That is Smoking Hott Bitch law and it is being allowed all over ,it was even tried to state in Florida that a woman had to wear it while getting her photo for identification purposes. Before you start swearing and stuff. I am answering you yet again you are name calling and not answering direct questions to you. Do a little digging on what is going on in Europe especially Germany and France

BM: You specifically said Detroit. Stop trying to play the victim card and post the link.
And actual links to actual legislation or ballot initiatives. Not some made up "CreepingThong" garbage.

cpc: Sorry ment asslesschaps

BM: So that would be a no on actual legislation and / or ballot initiatives?

cpc: Can't find it. Will do some digging tomorrow. All I can find is attempts to enact laws through the courts.

BM: Right. So that would be you admitting your earlier post was pile of garbage. Thanks.

cpc: I remember hearing/reading a story about it. The Florida ID thing is not BS. Like I said I will seach for it

BM: You specifically said on the ballot in Detroit. Shouldn't be that hard to find. Especially with the time you've spent trying to talk your way out of providing factual data. "I remember hearing" is not factual data. Use the Google and provide facts. Otherwise admit you are full of it and move on.

I don't like this slippery slope one bit. Next thing you know they're gonna make it illegal for me to jerk off in a car that's got a kid under 18 in it.

This is Illinois ... I think it's under 17 ... or if they have less hair than Reason does ... something like that ... IANAL ... that means I Am Not A Lawyer, not that I'm pro-chaz.
