Got burned by the first two prequels so I think I'll wait

It was fun waiting in line for Ep 1, I don't regret spending "only" 5 hours doing it, but I also don't regret not bothering for the next 2.

Only one I ever stood in line for was Return of the Jedi.

It will be interesting to see the reaction. The prequels were hated due to bad acting, and due to CGI overkill taking precedence over telling a story.

So, the response to that is putting Disney and JJ Abrams in charge?

But I get the feeling that despite the inevitable bad acting and CGI overkill and lack of story, the new movies will be much better accepted by audiences. And if that happens, does that mean George Lucas was actually a trendsetter?

Again?

Most people have said JJ's Star Trek was closer to Star Wars than Star Trek anyway.

abrams said this trilogy will be "darker" and "grimmer", and go back to the "roots" of "star wars", which i have no idea what he means by that since the original "star wars" movie was essentially a good looking b movie space western. "empire" is what he's referring to but you can't start a franchise that way. and anyway, whenever abrams claims to be a visionary, i snort. just like he thought he was creating "our godzilla" with "cloverfield" and doing something special in "super 8", all he proves is that he has no artistic vision whatsoever.

he's hollywood's greatest salesman. but he is a very competent director, i'll give him that.

Glad to see that John Williams will be doing the score for Ep. 7, but I wonder who will carry on after Williams is no longer around. I think Michael Giacchino would make sense, as he's written the latest score for Star Trek and seems to work well with JJ Abrams.

Garry Meier will take his place.

williams can mail in the SW soundtracks. he did have a few nice additions to the prequels but it's mostly going to reuse the same themes that have been used countless times. still amazing that he's still composing though.

Williams is unparalleled. Simply because, his score doesn't just compliment the story, it tells the story.

I think what he wrote for the prequels was fantastic. Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, and Battle of the Heroes are all great. And even aside from the "themes"... his style in the second half of Revenge of the Sith in particular was excellent: the staccato, the disjointed momentum, the just-barely-constrained chaos, in that last hour is great.
