Yuup. Gonna have to agree. I guess that will help you sleep better, eh reason?

Regardless of your agreement, I'd sleep better if I didn't have to get up to pee all the time.

In fact, I don't think McCown is all that good. That is why it is amazing to me that the offense looks at least as good with him out there. McCown is a guy who is lucky he is even in the NFL and yet he's flourishing in this offense.

Whats makes you think that Cutler is better than McCown in this offense? Clearly , he's not.

Really. Smart. Coach.

Except when it comes who to play and when to play them. Trestman learned a lot about himself today. My hope is, the Bears brass learned a lot about Cutler today

Why is that such an outrageous statement? Josh Mccown is not a savior, nor is he the future of the Bears offense. But I think that, objectively, he has played at least as well as Cutler in Trestman's offense, with a decent sample size. I think you are basing everything on either raw talent or reputation if you think otherwise.

This scenario reminds me of callers being shouted down by Bernstein when they suggest maybe the backup QB should play. Just because McCown plays better in this offense doesn't mean he's better than Cutler. It means he's better than Cutler for this offense. Now that the SMART.FOOTBALL.GUY. turned stupid for a week, we will all be able to see if McCown can keep it up.

But I'm sure Cutler will have another remarkable week of healing in practice. I'll then have him come over and lay his hands on my dog's ears to see if he can restore his hearing.

So...... This thread had a lot of bad thoughts going on last week.

Cutler wasnt healthy and only started due to ego/contract concerns. That decision cost the Bears the game and possibly the division.

*sigh* if that is true Hank, then Trestman and the team doctor should be fired today. I don't think we need 8 more pages of this. I have a philosophical difference with most people on this topic. So be it. Let me wallow in my ignorance.

By the way, what is Jason Whitlock's take on this? Isn't this what he wanted 3 years ago, for Cutler to gut it out? How'd it work? King Cutler didn't quit yesterday. Except he should have...

Except that he was healthy, until the 2minute warning where he hurt his ankle. The decision to play him was a good one. The decision to keep him in after the ankle injury is the issue.

And Trestman has owned up to it, and said it was a mistake not to pull him. It is what it is.

C'mon, Bucky, you're purposely ignoring facts. Kyle Long told WXRT this morning they knew Cutler was coming into the game less than 100% and they adjusted the offensive game plan accordingly.

That may be the case, or, is it just Trestman preemptively declaring that McCown wouldn't be able to score enough points for the Bears to win?

After the game, Trestman said something like he went for it on fourth down early in the game because he anticipated the game was heading toward a shootout. If we can take a small jump and say he anticipated the Lions scoring at will even before the game, and not just during it, then I think it's reasonable to assert he started Cutler because he thought Cutler, even at less than %100, would be able to lead the offense to more points than McCown.

Now McCown looked great during the six quarters he's played, even better than Cutler at points, but I think Trestman realized a defense, using six quarters of tape to prepare, would eventually do enough to expose McCown for what he is - an intelligent, but average at best QB, who is not capable of beating a defense designed to stop what he does best, which is not that much anyway.

His problem was his ankle? You have to be kidding? If not there is really no need to stretch this debate any further.

Looks like it is continuing this week.

Cutler was healthy, until he sprained his ankle, even though he had almost no mobility and was grabbing his groin all game.

He has a high ankle sprain, and is week to week. That's in the injury report. Nothing about his groin.

Like you said, it's possible they masked the groin injury. It really wasn't a major issue in the first half, though. It got bad after the ankle injury.

I think its a pretty major issue Chris that your starting qb can't run all the plays in the playbook because he's hurt. That the game plan was limited because he's hurt. Cutler isn't good enough to just pick apart the defense with quick reads and throws if thats how they're going to attack. He put up a measly 7 points in the first half, you know , while he wasn't "hurt" and still looked good.

Reasonable point. My ire in this thread is more towards those blaming Cutler, than Trestman.

Cutler looked great on the opening drive that scored the first TD. In the second half, Cutler was a shell of himself and was a liability for his team. He should have been pulled at half and the Bears could have ridden with McCown.

Too many teams fighting for the WC, I think the season is quickly going down the tubes.

Trestman just said all of the movement passing plays were in the playbook until after the tipped pass, fwiw.

And so is The Narrative.

Did Whitlock write an article about this yet, or are people making up their own stories? :drunken:
