"Theo Epstein admitted that the Cubs "got a little ahead of ourselves" in signing Edwin Jackson to a four-year, $52MM contract last winter."

Welcome to the party. But what's 52 million anyway.

At the time,I was so desperate for the Cubs to make any kind of move,I got excited. If the guy is healthy,I believe things can turn for him next season. It all depends if the Cubs upgrade the offense.

How many years left until they win 162 games+ a title? 2 or 3?

I hope they didn't make that signing to try to appease the CoF's and JimmyPastas of the fanbase. That would suck if they felt they needed to make that move.

Wish I could type everything said yesterday at Cubs "preview"

Too bad no sports stations cover these events!

From that write up I like what Theo had to say. I have no problem being patient while the draft and develop. The only guy involved that is starting to piss me off is Ricketts. Get shit figured out with the ballpark and the rooftops and whatever that mess is already. Go and buy a ps4 and get EA sports to get you an early copy of the show and then be fantasy fanboy on there and build your team and coaching staff........and let the baseball people make the baseball decisions in peace.

It would have been nice to have this event covered but everyone knows WSOX is too busy preparing for this weeks white sox weekly to devote any time to it.

Yea, from that write up it's becoming pretty obvious they are waiting for the new revenues. Not really Theo's fault.

I love the Cubs fan or Ligue in Ronnie Woo Woo's clothing that continues to spit out this thought:
I get da rebuild thing and some of their prospects but why don't they also spend some money and at least field decent team for these high tickets prices.

Attention idiots and most of Chicago sports radio (Dear God I actually think Bernstein is excluded):
If you go all out and win 84 games to somewhat sniff a wild card - YOU DON'T have Almora or Bryant or the guy at #4 next year.
People have complained about the Cubs not doing a full rebuild forever and then they go down a rabbit hole with the likes of David Hah and Rick Teladroid.

Rebuild wish list getting checked as it should.
State of the art Dominicam facility
State of the art Spring Training facility
Rebuild Wrigley with your own money while dealing with a sitcom of democratic boobs.
YES the ABOVE DO MATTER in the rebuild
Add multiple good prospects
Add several top 25 stud prospects
Shed horrible $ - Zambrano, Marmol, Soriano

Have some beers in the sunshine while looking at attractive women and enjoy the process.....It gets better.

Epstein noted an evaluation that indicated the Cubs were the worst in MLB production from the players taken in the drafts between 2002 to 2010.

Obviously knew they were bad but the worst in baseball?? Wow. Hendry and Wilken were a hell of a team.

I know it's fun to make Cubs fans for being excited with where the farm system is today, but that's the reason why. Granted, these players aren't producing at the major league level (and some won't), but they have put the Cubs in a good place for that to happen. As he also stated, the teams that have been successful lately are doing it with a big percentage of home grown talent.

Sure Cub fans are excited now because everyone knew before Theo came along they had bad drafts and a bad minor league system. Yep. Not one "expert" had anything good to say about any of those previous prospects. It was well documented they were the worst in baseball. But all of that has changed. Now.

Yes, but would be nice to see a local reporter attend and do a FULL write up.

dont know who this guy is, sounds like he is from Michigan, but when Theo started with the PATIENCE thing, there was a grumble among those who have heard the story before.

Nobody questions getting young talent is a great path. You get great players at a cheap rate. Great! Its like buying property. If you could have bought in Lincoln Park 20 years ago, you made a ton of money and life is good! The process of buying low isnt really a novel one.

How about the question the he didnt answer "if you are spending less money than you did last year, why cant my season tickets be less than last year?"

the response was 'we didnt raise overall season ticket prices'

Of course everyone liked the fancy new ball park video, who wouldnt.

The overall sense is that everyone knows what they are doing, they dont need to keep explaining it, but the natives are getting restless and this year, they want to see something. If thats Rizzo and Castro getting better or Bryant and Baez at the end of the year, or Soler and Almora at the end of the year. Not just to see them, but they have shown they are ready for majors.

I do hope they do this again next year.

And the "Hands are tied due to revenue" is just so bullshit. I am not saying it should be the Yankees $150 to $200 mill, but when we just start rolling into the $80 mill, it's just too low for this team, they need to spend more and get better players, Simple. Better is not Edwin Jax!

Very well thought out,but I am not an idiot. It doesn't matter where you pick in a baseball draft if you are picking the wrong guys. Baseball more than any other sport is a crapshoot when it comes to drafting talent. How many times have we heard about where some superstar was drafted in the mid or lower rounds? There is never a good excuse to throw a major league season and that's what the egotistical punk running the Cubs has done. He will never be wrong until his "guys" come to the majors.

:?: :?:
Are you serious? I hated that signing from day one. I said if they couldn't get Sanchez, go without. Nice try. I thought they could compete by upgrading the bullpen, not the starting rotation.

I said it was stupid before they signed him. It smacked of the GM giving in to stupid fans and trying to make the team a bit more respectable, by adding a guy who was nothing but a .500 pitcher (actually 1 game under, before last seasons 8-18 debacle of a season) with a 4.40 ERA (now 4.47 after a 4.98 last season). It was the first and to date really the only, move made in opposition to the stated direction of the team. I hope they will not make any similar mistakes and STICK to the plan.

If I were a Cub fan, i'd be pissed... not so much because Edwin is a meh pitcher, but his games are borderline infuriating to watch...

Jesus again the dope brags about something we all knew at the time.
Honestly no one thought it was a good signing. No one. But only one dope is bragging about it.

It sounds as if the Cubs don't have a lot of cash on hand. Why wouldn't they just go ahead and start the project? At worst they have to buy out a few contracts. I thought the Jackson signing was a way to appease Ricketts.

Despite all the highly rated prospects, I'm coming to the conclusion this is a rudderless ship being captained by the likes of Gilligan and the Skipper. Good Christ on an obscured rooftop, as a longtime suffering fan, I hope I'm wrong. This just tastes like another shit sanwhich served up by Wrigley consessionaires.

I hope you're wrong. They still don't have a WS manager in place and most of the ML talent took a step back last season. The smart baseball people say the farm is great so I think we'll see some good/great baseball in the next few seasons. I'm an optimistic fan.

Optimism? Fuck, at this point, it's more likely I'll see Christ himself sitting in the bleachers olgling titties than ever witnessing my baseball team win a fucking World Series. Jesus had a quick and painless death compared to that of a Cub fan. He was lucky.

You wanna lose for 5 years and trade everyone that is even half way decent for picks, you are bound to develop a good team!

The 2 kids they picked int he international draft I want to see sued as bargaining chips!
