Is anyone else really enjoying the show today? I especially think Jurko has brought alot to the table and, in my personal opinion, this show has been more enjoyable then one I can remember in the past 3 or 4 months. It is hard to put my finger on what specifically it is, but I find Mac and Jurko way more enjoyable to listen to without Harry. Hopefully the rest of the week is just them 2 and they dont try and throw a third guy in there.

And no, this is not a Harry sucks post, but rather a positive thread about what Jurko specifically, but both of them have brought to the table in Harry's absence. I guess its also possible that it just sounds so good cuz of the shitfest last week. It would be like following Isaih as Knicks GM, anyone would look great

You could hear the energy and comfort of both Mac and Jurko. They didn't feel as though they had to 'sway' the show from what they were doing to comment on some inane comment from somebody else in the booth. It was a very smooth listen today.

i'll even admit mac and jurko make for a very nice broadcast, without harry. however, i've enjoyed mac/harry as well--it's just a testament to how good mac is.

he is the best radio personality in chicago, hands down.

It is and always will be, a much more enjoyable show without Harry.
I know Jurko thinks Harry is a useless 3rd wheel, and shouldn't be on the show.

I couldn't listen when Mac and the Good Kid were gone, and now that Harry is gone, I can't stop listening. The show is so much more enjoyable without Tiny's sixth grade locker room jokes.

I also agree. I actually sat in my car and waited for a commerical to go into my house after work. Great radio. I can tell the guys came back refreshed from holiday. However..I do have another perspective on WHY it was a great show today.

We are coming into the best part of the sports year. It is easy to get fired up and energetic. This summer has to have been brutal for Mac, with the suspension and the dismal state of the White Sox. They always have their best shows during the football season. They are just returning to form. But, I am finally beginning to see the light in regards to Harry. He could quit tomorrow and the show would either stay the same or get better. I like the dynamic of the 3 man booth though. If Harry ever goes, I would hope they would find someone to replace him. Part of what makes MJH great is the different perspectives (old school sports talk show host, pro athlelte, and a goofy fan). I think they may need to find a new good fan. BTW...Mac and Finji, I would be interested! HAHA.

Great show today boys, looking forward to more great shows as the football season draws closer and we move into the best part of the baseball season--too bad my team has mailed it in.

I listened for an hour or so today and it was very good. I usually don't like when it's just Mac & Jurko because many times it's almost like it's just Mac. Jurko is probably my favorite host but Mac is very good at his job.

Anyway I didn't realize it before but Harry is grating on my nerves lately. His schtick has gotten old.

Big thumbs up to Jurko. He is giving us the insight he is capable of at long last. Mac seems refreshed too, but he is always solid. Keep it up Jurko!

I have never understood the love for Jurko, good guy, nice as they come, but would never get a job in radio if he didnt play in the nfl.

That's true for a lot of ex athletes. I think he's funny and he knows the nfl. I like hearin his view. He's not bad on the motor sports weekly but I don't really follow Nascar so I'm not sure if I'd know the difference.

You stated in another thread "Harry is solid". What is that based on? While I appreciate the opposing view point he provides, he consistently has some of the dumbest opinions I've ever heard that are usually based on his feelings as a fan rather than fact or logic.

Best radio personality in Chicago. Thats not much competition. We have a bunch of shitty radio guys working in this town.

Other than the NBA, which I know you love, Nas, what would be that other "big" sport I'm not following? UFC? NASCAR? Soccer? There really are only three profesisonal sports leagues that matter in this town. Admittedly, I could do decidedly better with hoops. I tried much harder last season, and was much more willing to put Stacy King and Norm Van Lier on as regulars, bit like the Bulls, I remain a work in progress.

Bernsie is the most talented guy in Chicago radio. Not just cuz he knows sports. He's smart, funny and clever too.

Yes he's arrogant and self-loving but that doesn't matter. That helps as a radio personality as well. He does show humility and self-awareness. He can make fun of himself.

Not that you'll lose money over me Mac. But I listen to B&B more then you now. They've had some good shows recently.

I think it's time to bring out the Big Ten welcome mat and talk college football. Will you have a regular contributor again this year? Will it be from the Big Ten Network or ESPN? I'd like to hear more Big Ten talk and there are alot of Big Ten alums in the Chicago area listening that would like to talk about the black and gold of the Iowa Hawkeyes or the orange and blue of the Illini. It doesn't have to be all week but maybe a dedicated segment each week previewing the Big Ten weekend and discussing the teams.

By the way, love the Stacy King interviews. I love the Red Kerr jabs that seem to hit him just a little below the belt.
Related, Stacy King is a nice addition to the booth for the Bulls. Red is just losing it, and King fills in nicely, adding some fun (Sef-a-LOSHA!).

Agreed. I heard a little Illini breakdown yesterday with JD. I disagree with Mac's position (correct me if I am misquoting it) that when they get good we'll talk about it. If that were the criteria, you would have had very little discussion on local teams the past 20 years.

I understand you may not consider the Illini local but many others do or consider the Big 10 in general local - our home conference if you will.

I agree that Big Ten talk would be a good addition. I think that Charles Davis from the BTN would be a good guest. He was very good on Boers and Bernstein one time. The Big Ten + Notre Dame on a Thursday or Friday would cover a significant portion of your audience. The Chicago area may be a pro sports town, but it is full of college sports fans.

Ken, I completely agree with you. Something I find funny about this is the only people I know in the city that aren't interested in college football are either people that don't care for football to begin with or sports talk show hosts. There are numbers upon numbers of people in the city packing into the Big Ten bars in the city Saturday after Saturday. There's a mass of Big Ten grads and followers that live in Chicago as well. Yet, it's the sports talk show hosts that don't thinkwe want to hear this talk. I don't know where they are getting their numbers from. Are they pointing to college football shows of the past that have failed because they had a weak host or were in an awful time slot? There's seems to be a lot of love for the show Hood and Silverman did back in the day. But back to this sports host thing. It cracks me up. Mac seems to enjoy the Big Ten but believes just because we are in Chcago it's not worthy of discussion in this town for 45 minutes in a week worth of shows. Hell, I'd take 30 minutes. One 15 minute segment on Tuesday and one on Friday.

There are other hosts in this city that grew up not following college football and did not go to a school with a good college football, so therefore no one wants to hear college football talk on the radio. This is the biggest myth of sports talk show hosts. And before the posters that come on here that say they don't like college football either, I know plenty of people that don't like baseball at all either. What are you going to do?

In a perfect ESPN Radio 1000 world, I'd like to see Hood and Jeff Dickerson do a show once a weeknight that covers college football for two hours. If we can do motor sports weekly, why the hell not College Football Weekly with Hood and JD? They both know their stuff and have good chemistry.

To get your fix, Colin Cowherd does a great job talking college football.

It's too bad his show absolutely sucks.

I'd also like to hear more Big Ten and college talk and think the reason we don't get more of it is because it's a lot of hard work for local talk show hosts. Either they don't want to do the work or don't have enough time but if you asked me to host a sports show I could pretty easily fill 4 hours with Rex/Bears talk and Cubs playoff race. If I had to do college football I'd have to do a ton more research and homework. Maybe the boys know it already and choose not to discuss it, but it could be a huge undertaking they don't believe will be worth the investment.

Big Ten! Big Ten! Why is everyone so in love with the Big Ten? C'mon, the conference can't even count correctly!!

Personally, I'd like to hear more MAC talk. Having gone to Ball State, I have trouble finding an outlet for the hysteria that is Ball State football.

Considering that Mac went to Ball State (Mac in the MAC), I'd assume that we'd get a complete Friday breakdown of each impending Cardinal contest...but alas, no...

Christ, when Ball State doesn't wet the bed late against Michigan in the big house, we can talk about them ;-)

Killer V,
The first four weeks of the season of Big Ten talk would be full of MAC teams :)
