Yea, that sucks Darko and SomeGuy.

My father in law just went out and bought a new all in one and the 1st thing he said was "I should have bought something online that didn't have Windows 8" He went from Vista to this and said it's bad.

I was joking. I really don't have many problems with Windows 8.1.

Metro is ok and I just end up going right to the desktop anyways and it works fine.

This nomination can not and should not remain dormant. It is the nomination of the year, this and next year.

Fuck you Microsoft for the most shittiest product ever.

No.

Windows M.E. was terrible, Vista wasn't terrible but it was bad and unfinished. Those were products that were not so Gouda. 8.1 is fine, the new initial U.I. is OK but you can always just click the desktop icon and go to the desktop. I still don't like the elimination of the Start button as it was in 7 and previous versions but there is still a ton of customization you can go, still wish it was there or at least the option was there.

Everything else is fine, performance is snappy, boot up is quick and it's stable.

My company is still on Windows XP. We have a few computers w/ 7, but there's an issue w/ our system & 7, so they haven't brought out the other new ones yet.

We have the same problem at my company... a few programs don't work with W7, and we can't get them to work with compatibility mode because they launch from an IE browser, and basically nobody can figure out how to get it to work, so we just run them from Virtual XP machines on Win 7 -- makes a lot of sense! But in Microsoft's defense, these were apps that really should have been upgraded years ago, but nobody wanted to pour money into it and we are where we are. We have a few apps that are finally sunsetted, but they are built in an app that was released in August of 1997. Anytime we have issues with that app and people ask why, I ask them to think back what they used to do with computers in 1997, and that is about advanced as that software was.

I have a theory on Windows 8...

People with touchscreen capable devices love it...
People with standard PCs loathe it...

So far I've only talked to one person who broke this rule...so it's a totally sound theory.

Linux Mint 16 released today. Good time to shrink your C drive on your Windows machine and install Linux alongside Windows for a dual-boot option. http://www.linuxmint.com/

The desktop support folks for windows installs say that every other iteration of windows is unusable crap vs not bad versions.

Windows 2K was ok.

Windows ME was crap.

Windows XP bounced between being crap and being ok over various SP's and editions. XP Pro SP3 was fairly solid, which is why it has hung on so long in corporate installs.

Windows Vista. Crap.

Windows 7 last good version of Windows.

Windows 8 so far has been crap.

The touch screen users vs desktop user experience makes sense, in as much as Microsoft is basing the next full version of Windows on their Windows mobile experience/platform. By the time the next version of Windows is released in 2015, touch screen should be almost default for most devices--including quasi-laptops and even what'll pass for desktops by then. With legacy hardware retro-fitted with after-market usb or whatever touch-screen control panels to match up with the OS capabilities.

Actually I have no problem with 8 at all since I added an app to make front page look like 7 desktop.

Touch screens trade productivity & efficiency for idiocy convenience. I say this as I tap a tablet. Any time I want to be productive I'm using a keyboard and a mouse. 55 wpm + cut & paste blocks of data versus tappa-tappa-tappa.

Windows 8 & Microsoft suck!

Efficiency is a simple icon that you click on, not extraneous movement of a mouse to generate an icon to click on. The extra clicks now needed for file management and PC administration. Also, the uninvited aspects that Microsoft fosters from updates (previously noted), to add-ons (don't want/need that extra shit) to co-opting your system. My sister has had her new system 3 weeks and it is now filled with bullshit and ads. Microsoft all but invites the adware and malware to reside on the system, and the idea that it is anything but intuitive or straightforward makes this a complete "Fuck U" system.

Yeah. I don't really find any of that. I've had my Windows 8 laptop since last Christmas, no ads, adware or malware and I just use Microsoft Security Essentials.

I click on the desktop and click on icons. Everything else, desktop wise, is pretty much Windows 7 which I use on my desktop every day.

Pretty easy.

I am upgrading to Windows 8.1.
If I never come back, it may be that this OS ate my laptop. Or that I shot myself in the face.

One would think that if you're unable to grasp Windows 8.1 you probably already have many holes in your brain.

It's called Trepanning, a-hole, and it worked.

So windows 8 still blows.
But check this out...

Quote:
Microsoft plans to end support for Windows XP on April 8, but there are still many users whose computers run the outdated software. That's why the company has asked tech-savvy users to encourage their friends to upgrade their computers or buy new ones.

In a recent blog post, the Redmond, Wash., company said readers of its Windows blog are likely running a more modern version of the operating system, but their friends and family may not be.

"We need your help spreading the word to ensure people are safe and secure on modern up-to-date PCs," Microsoft said in its blog
.

No. Fuck you. XP was awesome. I miss it. I was told I just needed time to get used to 8. But I've had time and I still fucking hate it. I can't stand it. It sucks. Microsoft really fucked the pooch with Windows 8. And I bet they know it.

Gotta cut bait with legacy software at some point, Darko.

Plus, Windows 8 is really hard to use if you have brain damage and can't quite figure out how to click on icons and/or use the keyboard to type things.

Or if you happen to like your OS to be intuitive and user friendly.

It's fine. Stop throwing your poop, click on the icons and learn the swiping the mouse pointer to the right edge of the screen brings up other stuff to click on.

Like i said, if you have anything resembling a semi-functioning brain you should be able to use Win 8.1

Windows 8 is quite stable as well so it's already better than ME.
